his trip was the renewal of a three-year trade
contract with Francis, Day & Hunter, the well-
known British publishing house. The last con-
tract Robbins-Engel, Inc., made with this Eng-
lish organization was for a minimum of $2,500.
The contract just closed with the same com-
pany for a new three-year period calls for
$25,000. This is an indication, not only of the
growth of Robbins-Engel, Inc., in the same
length of time but is a tribute, with commercial
aspects, of the importance of this firm's thriving
catalog. We herewith reproduce a photograph
taken in London at the time the new contract
was negotiated. From left to right, the figures
shown are "Reggie" Low, the professional man-
ager for Francis, Day & Hunter; John Abbott,
the general manager of the same firm; Vincent
Lopez, the well-known orchestra leader and
composer; Fred Day, seated, of Francis, Day &
Hunter; Jack Robbins, head of Robbins-Engel,
Inc.; D. Savino, the vice-president of the same
firm, and Bert Lucas, head of the band and or-
chestra d'vision of Francis, Day & Hunter.
Besides its popular songs, which include such
well-known offerings as "Florida," "A Sun-Kist
Cottage," and "Sally Lou," the Robbins-Engel,
Inc., catalog includes a "Gold Seal Series," com-
posed of beautiful standard ballads and encore
songs; "A Red Seal Series," composed of in-
strumental pieces, especially adapted for teach-
ers, music students and the theatre. It has
many important folio publications, including
"Ukulele Ike's" comic song books, "Handy's
Collection of Blues," "Famous Negro Spirit-
uals," and "Hank's One Hour Course in Ukulele
Playing." It has in addition many piano novel-
ties, several folios for the saxophone by Rudy
Wiedoeft, Clyde Doerr, Harry Fink, Donald E.
Clark and Charles Dornberger, "Tenor Banjo
Solos," by Mike Pingatore. The Robbins-
Engel catalog of "Motion Picture Music" is
one of the largest in the country. Among its
contributors as composers, editors and arrang-
ers are: William Axt, David Mendoza, Hugo
Frey, Domcnico Savino, Irenee Berge, Edward
Kilenyi, Erno Rapee, Jas. C. Bradford and
Robert Hood Bowers.
The Robbins-Engel, Inc., activities have been
most important in this country in recent years.
With the several new arrangements made for
European distribution, the catalog assumes more
international importance.

PORTLAND, OKK., August 11.—The F. R. Austen
Music Co., in the Fine Arts Building, has been
sold to George W. Chelson, and will hereafter
be known as the George W. Chelson Music Co.
The company has dealt exclusively in sheet
music, featuring classical, choir music and teach-
ers' supplies and Mr. Chelson will continue to
handle the same line of supplies.
Mr. Chel-
son came to Portland in 19()6 and since that
time he and his family have taken a prominent
part in the musical activities of the city. Mr.
Austen will go to Olympia, Wash., where he
will represent the Wiley B. Allen Co.
