he also is desirous of becoming an accomplished
musician as well and some day even be direc-
tor of his own orchestra. And certainly, if he
can attain the position of the noted music mas-
ter, Dan Russo, who is giving the boy frequent
lessons, his wishes will be more than granted.
Dan Russo is co-conductor of the Oriole Or-
chestra, playing at the Kdgewater Beach Hotel,
in Chicago, and recording exclusively for Bruns-
wick records. He is also known throughout
the country as a composer, for he has such
numbers as "Toot, Toot, Tootsie," "My Dream
Moon," "Back in Hackensack," "Moonlight and
You" and many others to ,his credit. His lat-
est composition, "Isabelle," is now being re-
leased by Jack Mills, Inc., and is expected to
be a big hit.

Reports Conditions in Mid - West Territory
Healthy—Witmark Numbers That Are in
Demand
J. Witmark, of M. Witmark & Sons, the well-
known publishers of the "Rlack and White"
edition and other publications, returned late last
week following a trip through Middle West
territory.
Mr. Witmark found conditions in
the music field, particularly in Detroit and Chi-
cago, quite healthy and he brought back to the
home office of his company some substantial or-
ders for its standard and operatic songs, as
well as for its growing octavo catalog.
Particular activity was shown on the three
newer songs in the Witmark catalog, namely,
Ernest R. Ball's "West of the Great Divide;"
Arthur A. Penn's "Sing Along," and Frank H.
Grev's "Give Me One Rose to Remember."

"The Mystery of Night"
KANSAS
CITY, MO., February 3.—The
profes-
sional department of J. W. Jenkins Sons' Music
Co., under the direction of Miss Martha Young,
announces that the presentation of a special
number at the Main Street Theatre was "The
Mystery of Night," published by Jenkins' Music
Co. and presented with a film of twelve night
scenes from nature and an Oriental dancing
number. The feature met with enthusiastic re-
sponse on the part of the audience. A special
number to be shown at the Newman Theatre
this week will feature the same song, the de-
tails of the presentation being kept secret until
after the first performance. A new relation of
the popular song, "The 12th Street Rag," is a
"blue cousin" of "The 12th Street Blues," that
has met with approval. Other favorite pieces
are, "All's Done See'd Er Callicker Mule," and
"To Miss a Kiss." "The Mystery of Night"
was chosen to become a part of "Puzzles of
1925" with Elsie Janis, which met with high
approval on the opening night at Atlantic City,
and is to play irf New York.
New Ghappell-Harms Songs
Among the new issues in the Chappell-
Harms, Inc. catalog are "Immortality," the
words of which are by Edwin Hatch, music by
Hermann Lohr; "Casey the Fiddler," words by
Fred G. Howies, music by Haydn Wood;
"Fairy Cradles," words by Edward Lockton,
music by Molly Carew; "When Eventide
Closes," words by Gertrude Gunnell, music by
Gerald Jonas, and "Hurrah for the Rolling Sea,"
words by Clifford Grey and music by Herman
Finck.
Ditson Piano Studies
The Oliver Ditson Co. has issued twenty
short studies for the piano by Francis Terry
under the title "A Sunny Corner in the Finger
Gymnasium." This is an educational work
which should be of unusual interest to teachers,
