Feist Starts Spring Drive
With Popular Catalog
Large Number of Publications in Present Cata-
log Bear All Marks of Reaching the Hit
Class
Leo Feist, Inc., is starting out the Spring sea-
son with a catalog rivaling in popularity, if not
exceeding, that of last Spring when they had
among their leaders two of the biggest hits,
"Linger Awhile" and "I Love You."
This Spring the Feist catalog has "O Katha-
rina," undoubtedly one of the quickest suc-
cesses in several years. Originally introduced
in "Chauve Souris" it has been popular with
photoplay orchestras, in theatres and the dance
halls of the country. A criterion of the popu-
larity of this offering has been demonstrated by

wholesale and retail establishments of records,
rolls and sheet music, who invariably have is-
sued special window strips and other advertis-
ing material on the number.
Another popular seller in the Feist catalog is
the Isham Jones song and dance success "I'll
See You in My Dreams." The fox-trot, "No
Wonder," has also proved a big novelty number.
Undoubtedly, later it will achieve additional
popularity in song form.
Most surprising returns are being had on the
ballad "I Had Some One Else -Before I Had
You" (And I'll Have Somebody Else After
You're Gone). This song in some respects is
really making itself, for wherever it is rendered
immediate sales are created without the usual
supplementary "plugs." Sales reports from all
over the country show that its popularity is
rapidly increasing.
Among the newer offerings that are also hav-
ing an active sale are "Let It Rain, Let It
l'our," "I'm So Ashamed" and "If Jt Wasn't
for You I Wouldn't Be Crying Now," as well
as the song and ballad success, "Will You Re-
member Me."
Among the better class popular numbers in
this same catalog that continue in popularity
are "Dear One" and "Honest and Truly," as
well as "Haunting Melody." Their favor is the
result not so much on current popularity as
upon musical merit and lyrical value.
The Feist catalog also contains some gems
from several shows. These include the music
from "Natja," the songs from "Kid Boots" and,
of course, the songs from "Blossom Time," in-
cluding the standard seller, "The Song of
Love."

"Yearning" Develops Into
Active Berlin Number
Fox-trot by Benny Davis and Joe Burke
Among Favorites With Orchestras and Pro-
fessionals
"Yearning," a new fox-trot, by Benny Davis
and Joe Burke, which was recently introduced
by Irving Berlin, Inc., is developing into one of
the real active numbers of the Berlin catalog.
Orchestra leaders in all parts of the country re-
port it as one of the favorites of dance enthu-
siasts and in vaudeville it is also being heard
frequently.
"Yearning," together with "When You and I
Were Seventeen," "Show Me the Way" and
"Oh Mabel," are favorites among the workers in
the band and orchestra and professional depart-
ments of the Berlin organization.

Forbids Broadcasting of Any Copyright Work
—Bill Is in Second Reading in Canadian
Parliament
OTTAWA, ONT., March 9.—Of special interest to
the radio public is one clause in the bill to
amend the copyright act. Among the things
this amended act, if it became law, would for-
bid is the broadcasting of any copyrighted
work "by wireless, telephony, telegraphy, radio
or other kindred process."
This bill has received its second reading and
is now before a special committee of the House.
In referring to it, H. C. Hocken, M. P., said
in an interview in reference to the clause
quoted: "It would appear from this clause that

Two New Ditson Songs
The Oliver Ditson Co. has issued two num-
bers that are particularly appropriate for
Easter. One is the sacred song entitled "Geth-
seniane," words of which are by J. Martyn
Walsh, music by Charles Fonteyn Manney, and
"Easter Bells," text by Margaret E. Sangster,
music by John Hyatt Brewer. To its octavo
series has been added anthem for Eastertide,
arranged for mixed voices entitled "The Walk
to Emmaus," by George B. Nevin, and "Easter
Prologue and Processional," by Arthur F. M.
Custance, for mixed voices with soprano, and
tenor solos; and another George B. Nevin num-
ber entitled "At the Sepulchre," arranged for
men's voices.
Features "Ukulele Daly"
Phil Ponce, head of Phil Ponce Publications,
and well-known traveling representative, re-
cently has been covering New England terri-
tory. On his present trade trip he is featuring
a new novelty song which has already achieved
some popularity, called "Ukulele Daly." This,
together with "Lady of My Cigarette," and "I
Found You Out," are leading the Ponce cata-
log. "Ukulele Daly," by the way, is one of the
features of the Happiness Boys on the radio
and of Frances White, the Star in Keith vaude-
ville.
Prager on Coast Trip
Bernard Prager, traveling representative for
the Edward B. Marks Music Co., left early this
week on his semi-annual trade trip to the Pa-
cific Coast. Mr. Prager will go by way of the
Northwest route and will cover many Canadian
cities west to Vancouver, following which he
.vill call on dealers in the larger centers of the
Pacific Coast.

"Kiddy Ukes" New Book
by May Singhi Breen
Edward B. Marks Co. Publishes Instruction
Book for Juvenile Ukulele Players
May Singhi Breen, who has become na-
tionally known through her ukulele broadcast-
ings and through her special arrangements of
popular songs for this instrument, many of
which are included in current piano numbers, is
also the authoress of a number of ukulele books,
most of which are gaining wide popularity. The
latest of these is "Kiddy Ukes," published by
the Edward B. Marks Music Co., described as
tunes for tiny tots for the ukulele.
It is not generally known that Miss Breen
has a grown daughter, who is also a ukulele
enthusiast. On the title page of "Kiddy Ukes"
a half-tone reproduction of this other member
of her family is shown advantageously.
"Kiddy Ukes" carries illustrations which
should assist materially in perfecting the young
ukulele players. The contents include correct
positions for holding the instrument, other di-
rections for playing, "Alphabet Song," "Humpty
Dumpty," "Mary Had a Little Lamb" and num-
bers of similar caliber.
"Indian Dawn" Widely
Featured by Sam Fox
Popularity in Concert and in Dance Form
Leads to Wider Exploitation by Publisher
"Indian Dawn," one of the newer additions
to the Sam Fox Publishing Co. catalog, is being
featured by many vocal artists in concert. The
early indications of the favor it has achieved
stamp it as an unusual offering. Besides its
popularity as a vocal selection, which is already
quite large, it is proving an excellent fox-trot
and, as such, is featured by numerous of the
leading dance orchestras.
"Indian Dawn" has shown up so well that the
Sam Fox Publishing Co. has decided to greatly
extend the publicity program in its behalf. Ad-
vertising in musical publications has been ar-
ranged and some specially attractive material
for the dealer is also available.
Novel Radio Plug
Some of the radio broadcasting stations in
the Middle West have used a novel way to put
over a song title with special emphasis. The
song in question is by Gus Kahn and Walter
Donaldson and called "The Midnight Waltz."
The radio stations which- have taken special
interest in this offering have broadcasted at
midnight, which is most apporpriate to the title.
The announcement before the broadcast spe-
cifically states that they are about to play "The
Midnight Waltz."
