Reports of Hinds, Hayden & Eldredge Series
Show Steady Increases in Sales Volume
It was remarked some time ago in these col-
umns that, despite the inroads radio has made
on popular music and on the leisure time in the
homes of America, with its aid there was also
the possibility that American home life of a
decade ago might return in vogue.
Motion pictures, dance halls, theatres and the
automobile take people away from home, and
radio at least, while absorbing the pleasure pe-
riod hours, keeps Americans close to the fire-
side.
A concrete demonstration of this return of
old fashioned home life is given by the sales

figures of Hinds, Hayden & Eldredge, Inc., pub-
lishers of "The Most Popular Series of Music
Books," which show that during the past six
months such books as "Songs for Every Oc-
casion," "Most Popular Hymns," "Most Pop-
ular Home Songs," "Most Popular Songs for
the Drawing Room," "Mother Goose," "Most
Popular Children's Piano Pieces" and publica-
tions of like caliber all had substantial increases
in sales volume.
The books mentioned are all of the type that
are popular in Jiome gatherings and can be
taken as an indication of home musical interest.
Theatre Orchestra Edition
Issued by Carl Fischer
Contains Arrangements of World's Finest
Musical Literature—New Outlet for the
Dealers
"The Theatre Orchestra Edition" of Carl
Fischer, Inc., contains high-grad£ practical ar-
rangements of the finest works in the world's
musical literature. It brings the great master-
pieces to both the large and small musical com-
bination and its popularity is continued through
the appropriate additions that arc made to it
at frequent intervals.
The dealer interested in advancing the musical
taste of his community would do well to present
catalogs, literature and other available mate-
rial of the Carl Fischer "Theatre Orchestra Edi-
Lion," as well as other good orchestra catalogs
to the orchestra leaders in his community.

Flammer has been under contemplation for
some time and has now reached a practical
solution.
Mr. Flammer will start in Pennsylvania, travel
West through Ohio, Kentucky and Texas to
California, thence up the Coast to Seattle and
return via Salt Lake City, Denver, Kansas City,
the Twin Cities and Chicago.

Another Success in New Show, "My Girl"
Authors of "Little Jessie James" Repeating in Their New Production—Songs in New Score
Likely to Be Big Selling Successes as Preliminary Demand Is Showing
\\7
ITH the opening of the new show "My and the second one is covering the metropol-
Girl," at the Vanderbilt Theatre, which itan area. There is a Southern company now
apparently is destined to run successfully for playing Texas and Oklahoma and an additional
some time, the writers of one of the most suc-
cessful and certainly the most profitable shows
of last year are repeating their performance.
The boys responsible are Harry Archer and
Harlan Thompson, writers of "Little Jessie
James," which, following its New York and
Chicago appearances of last year to crowded
>pace of time with both dealer and buyer.
l'oth Archer and Thompson are young
v.r.lers. They naturally, however, did not jump
into success without tfoing through the usual
experiences of all writers. During the period
while they were awaiting recognition they con-
tinued optimistic. They wrote with some suc-
cess with the usual portion of poor produc-
tions undercapitalized or mismanaged.
With the second season of "Little Jessie
James" producing profits not only in the United
Slates but in many foreign countries, and with
the new show "My Girl" playing to crowded
houses, the period of lean years for these
writers is past. They are now in demand
by wide-awake producers, they are well known
to the music trade and no small part of the
musical comedy enthusiasts of the country are
their public.
Dolin's Song in Demand
PORTLAND, ORE., December 17.—Max Dolin's
"When the Shadows Fall," published by Sher-
man, Clay & Co., is in big demand in Portland,
according to the sheet music dealers. The num-
ber appeals to those who are interested in
aesthetic and fancy dancing, and is used in all
of the six women's and girls' classes at the
Multnomah Athletic Club, which number on an
average of 100 members to each class.

In "Little Jessie James" we had one of the
biggest successes in the popular field of last
season—"I Love You." There are two other
outstanding songs in this show, "Let's Step
Along" and "Little Jessie James."
In "My Girl" there seemingly are four real
successes, "You and I," "A Fellow Like Me,"
"Desert Isle," and "A Rainbow of Jazz."
The songs in this show are already selling
in fair volume and at least two of them, "You
and 1" and "Desert Isle" will achieve national
popularity on their melodies alone in a short
