GOSHEN

2,000 Representatives of Wood-using Industries
to Meet in Washington, on November 19-20
Upon Call of Secretary of Agriculture.
Considerable interest is being shown by piano
superintendents and case-makers in the confer-
ence to discuss "Utilization of Forest Prod-
ucts," to be held in Washington, D. C, Novem-
ber 19 and 20, in the auditorium of the National
Museum. Hon Henry C. Wallace, Secretary of
Agriculture, has expressed the opinion that this
will be the most comprehensive attempt ever
made in the United States to have the economi-
cal use of existing timber supplies take its
essential place in the national forestry program
along with the prevention of forest fires, the
growing of timber, the acquisition and admin-
istration of forest lands under the Weeks Act
and other functions of the Forest Service which
are numerous.
Mr. Wallace will issue invitations to approxi-
mately 2,000 representatives of forest owners
and lumber and wood-using industries, con-
sumers, the building crafts and the public gen-
erally. In his preliminary announcement the
Secretary says: "As you know, the question of
timber supply is becoming more acute year by
year. We are studying it from three angles:
First, how to protect the timber we have from
fire, insect pests and plant diseases; sec-
ond, how to encourage the growing of more
timber, both on the national forests and private
forests; third, how to cut down the waste in
manufacture and use of wood."
