Among the new choral offerings added to the

catalog of the Oliver Ditson Co. are several
songs to the series, "Songs of the Spanish Prov- Opera Co. and for several seasons solo singer
inces," edited with piano accompaniments by
Kurt Schindler. These include the "Vagabond's
Song," a four-part mixed chorus with tenor and
soprano solos; "Song of the Cider," "On the
Mountain Tops," six-part chorus for mixed
voices. "Bird in His Cage," "Melancholy" and
"The Jolly Bachelors" arc also in this series. A
marching song for schools, entitled "The Call
of Duty," has been added to the Ditson's School
Octavo, as well as "Over the Foaming Wave,"
a four-part song.
"For the Numberless Unknown Heroes," an
eight-part chorus for mixed voices, dedicated to
the Unknown Soldier at Arlington and all un-
known soldiers, which was awarded the Men-
delssohn Club competition prize for 1923, is also

A new Feist song, "Mister Radio Man" (Send
Back My Mammy to Me), has, as its title would
suggest, received much encouragement from
radio broadcasting stations in Eastern territory.
As no mention was made, however, of the pub-
lisher, a great many written inquiries were
received by the station giving the song its pub-
licity. William A. Emerson, a producer of
minstrel shows, 231 Main street, Haverhill,
Mass., took a chance and wrote the following
note to Leo Feist, Inc.:
"Can you give me any information regarding
the song 'Mister Radio Man' (Send Back My
Mammy to Me)? I heard this number by radio
on last Monday night from Station WOR. I
wrote them for the publisher, but received no
answer yet. It sounds like a Feist number."
If the song proves a big success the last
quoted line can be considered a compliment. If
not?

The Rainbow Music Corp., specializing in
"blue" and "race" songs, is finding a very active
sale for a number of its songs, including "Mis-
treatin' Daddy," "Love Ain't Blind No More"
and "Tantalizin' Mamma." Much of the original
popularity on these issues was received in talk-
ing machine record form, the numbers having
been rendered by prominent "blues" singing
artists. The sales department anticipates in-
creased activity during the coming weeks.
Cadman Song a Success
"My Thoughts Are You," by Charles Wake-
field Cadman and John Steel, has climbed its
way to a position where it is now the second
best seller in the Harold Flammer catalog. Its
increasing popularity has led to the release
of this song February 1 on the Brunswick rec-
ord. Harold Flammer, Inc., has also received
several requests for the foreign rights for the
number.
Open Retail Shop in Cleveland
CLEVELAND, O., January 14.—Terpret Studios,
publishers and dealers in music, have opened a
retail shop at 9211 Hough avenue, where, in
addition to music, they will specialize in violins.
Stella Jelica
with Sousa's Band, recently arrived in New
York on the SS. "Kroonland." She will shortly
appear in recital programs in Eastern territory
and will make a series of New York appear-
ances. Among other songs, she will feature
two numbers from the catalog of Sherman, Clay
& Co., San Francisco, Cal., the song and waltz
successes "Sleep" and "The West, a Nest and
You."
The Eastern offices of Sherman, Clay & Co.,
under the direction of Richard Powers, are quite
enthusiastic over the arrival of this artist as
it will give further prominence to these success
ful issues, which received their original pop-
ularity in dance form and are now coming into
further prominence through vocal renditions.
Makes Composition in Suit
TOPEKA, KAN., January 19.—The American
Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers,
through the local law firm of Newall & Wal-
lace, its Kansas representatives, have made the
management of Warnick's Dance Hall defend-
ant in a suit filed in the Federal Court on
January 11. The petition charges Warnick's
O chestra with infringing copyrighted music.
Warnings have been sent to theatres, dance
halls, radio broadcasting stations and other
places of amusement, which play music for
profit, to recognize the copyright proprietors
by the payment of royalty.

THE
"Rosita" Has Wide Tie-up
I
With Mary Pickford Picture
Number Used in 250 Motion Picture Houses in
Connection With Showing of Film of the
Same Title
Over 250 motion picture houses throughout
the country have either played the music of
"Rosita" or have made a special presentation
of the number in conjunction with the showing
of the Mary Pickford photoplay of the same
name. The Sam Fox Publishing Co., publisher
of this song in tango fox-trot, has forwarded
orchestra arrangements to several hundred lead-
ers, most of these upon request. In several
cases, including the Capitol Theatre, New York,
a special presentation of "Rosita" in song form
was made a prologue feature. In a number of
other instances, besides giving a special rendi-
tion of the song, the melody was worked into
the musical score to accompany the showing of
the picture.
This has proved to be one of the most im-
portant picture tie-ups of recent years for the
greater part of it was an unsolicited and volun-
tary arrangement on the part of the exhibitor
or his musical director. Another important
factor in the widespread publicity of "Rosita"
is the prominence of the artists, which makes
the showing an exceptional attraction. The
fact, too, that the tango fox-trot has resumed
some popularity and that things Spanish are
having a new vogue is also proving timely.
The Sam Fox Publishing Co. has issued some
very attractive cut-outs, window posters and
other advertising material which has aided the
dealer in getting the most out of the sales of
"Rosita" while its popularity is at its height.
MUSIC TRADE
The response that has come in on "RICHMOND'S OFFICIAL MUSIC
GUIDE" AND "RICHMOND'S OFFICIAL MUSIC INDEX"—catalogs of
Standard and Popular music—testifies to the far-sightedness of hundreds of
dealers in seeing the true value of these wonderful sales creators.
Orders have been received in lots of from five hundred to five thousand
of the individual catalogs, from all sections of the country (your competitor
may have his) which shows the need of, and the interest in, these publications.
A National Advertising
Campaign
has been planned for these catalogs in such well-known magazines as the
"Ladies' Home Journal," "Pictorial Review," "Cosmopolitan," "McCall's,"
"Good Housekeeping" and many other nationally known publications. Ad-
vertisements will appear just as soon as the catalogs are ready.
These catalogs will act as a stimulant to your music department. This
advertising campaign will undoubtedly bring new customers into your store,
not only to buy sheet music, but also other merchandise.
This is the wording of the Advertisement which
is planned to be run in the Magazines:
Sheet Music buying simplified. Ask your dealer
for a copy of "Richmond's Official Music Guide,"
containing practically all the titles of the World's fore-
most Standard compositions, vocal and instrumental,
and studies; also "Richmond's Official Music Index,"
containing the titles of all popular successes, vocal
and instrumental. Most dealers carry these catalogs
and will supply them free for the asking.
Also'Consider Other Matters of Trade Interest
at General Meeting Held in New York This
Week—New Applications for Membership
The directors and members of the Music Pub-
lishers' Association of the United States met
at the offices of the Music Industries Chamber
of Commerce recently and discussed the
provisions of the new Canadian Copyright Act
and other matters. It was decided that the new
act was so complicated that it was well to
get legal advice before proceeding to operate
under it.
The suggestion that a music publishers' clear-
ing house be established to take the place of
"the proposed general catalog was presented,
but abandoned on the theory that the benefits
would not warrant the expense.
A report was received from the Committee
on an Historical Record of Music Publishing
in America, but the expense appeared prohibi-
tive and the committee was instructed to ascer-
tain if some publishers would net undertake to
publish such a history as a reference book.
New Paxton & Co. Numbers
W. Paxton & Co., Ltd., has made two addi-
tions to its Anthology of "Organ Music, "Marc-hc
Aux Flambeaux" and "Adagio," taken from
Beethoven's "The Moonlight Sonata." Among
its new popular song and instrumental selec-
tions are a waltz number entitled "Lagoon
Lullaby" and "Danse Moderne," the latter
issued for violin and piano; a vocal duet for
tenor and bass by Starling Goodwin entitled
"Could a Man Be Secure?"
Athon Song Shop Opens
