Because of the many technical formalities ex-
isting in the present American copyright law,
not contained in the laws of the nations belong-

Union without radical changes in our law, as
proposed in the Dallinger bill, would result in
it being possible for a foreigner to copyright

A recent release by the Victor Co. is an un-
usually interesting double Red Seal with the
recordings on both sides by America's most
popular baritone, Reinald Werrenrath. It is
likely to prove an exceptionally good seller, as
it features two of the good old standard favor-
ites that have done so much to make the Wit-
mark Black and White Series one of the most
notable catalogs of its kind in the country. The
selections chosen are "Can't Yo' Heah Me
Callin', Caroline?" by Wm. H. Gardner and
Caro Roma, and that old favorite "When You
Were Sweet Sixteen."

Black and White Series Handled
in Canada by Hearst Music Publishers
Well-known Canadian Publishing House to Distribute Famous Series of Witmark & Sons to
Canadian Trade—New Arrangement Makes Prices in Dominion Same as Here
A N interesting announcement comes from M.
Witmark & Sons stating that negotiations
have just been closed whereby Hearst Music
Publishers, Ltd., of Canada, will henceforth act
as sole selling agent and distributor in the
Dominion of the famous Witmark Black and
White Series. This step will bring the Witmark
Black and White Series closer than ever to
Canada's music lovers and will eliminate many
obstacles which have hitherto had to be over-
come in popularizing the series across the
Northern border. The immediate effect of the
new arrangement makes it possible for Canadian
dealers to purchase songs of the Witmark Black
and White Series at the same prices prevailing
in the United States, with the added advantage
of having no duty charges to pay.
It is confidently predicted that the sale of
these favorite songs under the new arrange-
ment will prove to be at least tenfold what
they have hitherto totaled in Canada. Not only

will there be a substantial saving to the Ca-
nadian dealer in cost, but there will also be
an invaluable saving in time on all orders, as
well as the complete elimination' of the red tape
necessary to releasing goods from the customs
when shipped from the States.
The Hearst organization, one of the strong-
est and best-equipped of its kind in Canada, is
very enthusiastic over the new plan. It will
handle the Witmark Black and White Series
as a proposition entirely apart from its own
enterprise, and is establishing a separate organ-
ization for the purpose of promoting this big-
selling American catalog.
It is worthy of note that in England and on
the European Continent B. Feldman & Co. are
the sole distributors of the Witmark Black and
White Series, while in Australia the same ar-
rangements exist with Allen & Co. and Frank
Albert. With the new representative in Canada
it will be but a short time before the Witmark
Black and White Series will find its way to
every nook and corner of the world.

Booked in Practically All Metropolitan The-

"Just for To-night"
Nellie and Sara Kouns are two American
girls who have proved that it is not necessary
to create prestige abroad before gaining recog-
nition in their own country. They had attained
wide prominence before going to Europe, where
they spent several years, and now find, upon
their return, a renewed interest in their work.
New Oliver Ditson Issues
The Oliver Ditson Co. has released "A
Pageant of the Resurrection" for church, choir
and school, by William V. Dixie, from a text
largely scriptural and music compiled from
standard works and hymns. With a re-
vival of interest in the Passion Play and similar
spectacular religious productions this new
offering should find favor. The above publisher
has also issued a series of piano numbers, in
book form, under the title "Scarecrow Sketches."
This contains six excerpts from the accompani-
ment to "Puritan Passions," a photoplay based
upon Percy McKaye's play, "The Scarecrow."
The music was composed by Frederick S. Con-
verse for the Film Guild, Inc.
Healy Writes New Song
OSWEGO, N. Y., March 24.—Stephen C. Healy,
manager of the Burke Music Co., this city, is
the author of a new song entitled "Kelly Green
Blues."
They are appearing in vaudeville and have been
booked at practically all the leading houses in
the metropolitan area.
The Kouns Sisters were originally from
Kansas and appeared upon the concert stage for
several seasons. They both possess soprano
voices of unusual range and clarity of tone.
They have continued their concert programs in
vaudeville and have faithfully adhered to this
standard, which is unusual and all the more
remarkable because their repertoire has found
favor. Among the songs the Kouns Sisters
feature is the international waltz success, "Just
for To-night," published by Edward B. Marks
