:::LEVELAND, 0., November 20.-The Knabe
Vvarerooms and Ampico Studios, of which
M. O . Mattlin is the head, are' usi ng a novei
m ethod for delivering piano~ wher e deliveries
are out of the ordinary. There are not a
few hou s es in this di s trict that are of the bunga
low typ e-two-story d wellings th at are mQstly
roof in the second story. Here very often pur- '
chasers nequire th e piano to be de liver ed to the
second floor. There is seldom any place for th e
mo ve rs to place tackl e to rai se th e piano. Ac
cordingly, from heavy gal vanized pipe, a port
able derri ck has b e,e n constr u cted, which can
be placed on the roof, permitting the piano to
be hoisted from the truck and slipped through
an upper window. V\'h erever this device is
use d it usually draw s a lar~e crowd, suppos edly
in the b elief that th e piano may fall. But it
does not fa ll. Speed and efficiency are the key
notes to this method of ha ndling difficult piano
del iveries.
Another unu sua l ac co mplishment this week
by the Kn abe V\' are rooms is the sale outright
of a Knabe gra nd w ith the i\mpico to Read e's
Hippodrome Th ea tre . Thi s is one of th e larger
the atr es in town. Lik,e all high-cl ass amuse
ment e nter pr ises here, som e additional attrac
lion be " ides the re gular bill is soug ht a fter by
theatre managers. It is now not uncommon to
. ,e·e in s trum ents, reproducing pianos, playing be
fore the show starts in local th ea tres. Csual\y
th es e in s ta llati o ns are made by the m e rchant ,
and serve 'as a pie ce of publi city for the repro
ducin g instrument h.e has to offer.
In the ca~;e of th e Knab e vYar eroom s, ho w
eve r, vV a lter Reade, owner of the Hippodrome,
dropp ed int o to w n for a t wo -hou r stay, co n
ce ived the idea of in stallin g such an instrument
in the Hippodro m e, called up M. O. Mattlin
on the phone, aske d the price, and ordered one
sent to th e theatr e imm.ediatel y. The sa le was
closed before Mr. Rea de left town, and the sam e
eve nin e; t he _\mpico s tarted pla yi ng its reper
toir e.

The Piano Manufacturer
and the Strauch Action
The pia n 0 manufacturer who incorporates Strauch
Action into his product gains far more than the benefits
resulting from a reputation supreme in its field.
He builds into HIS product the dependable worth and
recogniz,ed honesty that for nearly fifty years have char
acterized America's finest instruments.
The maintenance of this quality and merit is insur.ed
by the vigil and constructive skill of men whose legacy
was this: The protection of the good name of the
founder of the house of
Strauch Bros.
