MILLS NUMBER SCORES AT ONCE
"Out Where the Blue Begins" is the title of
a new ballad by George Graff, Jr., and Bert
Grant. The number was accepted last week for
publication by Jack Mills, Inc. While the manu-
script was being played just before its ac-
ceptance . a number of professional singers
heard the song and immediately made overtures
to program the number. No song in recent
months has had more immediate popularity than
this new issue and it bears every earmark of
being a steady success in the future.
MAURICE ABRAHAMS' NEW NUMBERS
A two-day conference between the interna-
tional printing unions and the Authors' League
of America and its various guilds ended in New-
York recently after plans had been completed
to revise the Copyright law to permit the United
States to join the International Copyright
Union. Proposed amendments to the law, soon
to be presented to Congress, have been sent
to the International Copyright Union in Berne.
Among those who attended the conference
were Ellis Parker Butler, president of the Au-
thors' League; Harvey O'Higgins, president of
the Authors' Guild; Edward Childs Carpenter,
president of the American Dramatists; Matthew
VVoll, president of the Allied Printing Trades
Union; Peter J. Brady, of the Allied Printing
Trades Council of Greater New York, and F. W.
Hume, of the National Publishers' Association.
NEW TIERNEY ANDJHcCARTHY SHOW
The comedy, "Not So Long Ago," produced
by Comstock & Gest, will be revived by the
firm in musical form, with Harry Tierney and
Joe McCarthy looking after the tunes, while
Guy Bolton will revise the book.
Dealing with a period around 1876 the comedy
will be partially derived from the conditions
of that time, when shoes at $3 a pair and other
necessary living expenses will be brought into
contrast with present-day conditions.
"SUN SHOWERS" COMES FEBRUARY 5
Lew Cantor will present "Sun Showers," de-
scribed as a musical rainbow, in New York on
Monday evening, February 5. This new play
has music and lyrics by Harry Delf and it is
being staged by Frederick Stanhope. The cast
includes Harry Delf, Allyn King, Douglas
Stevenson, Berta Donn, Harriet Lee, Claire
Grenville, Tom Dingle and Patsie Delaney.

"DEAREST" SCORES IMMEDIATELY
New Berlin Number by Davis and Akst Meeting
With an Immediate Demand From Orches-
tras and Vaudeville Artists
"Dearest" is the title of a new song recently
added to the catalog of Irving Berlin, Inc., and
which practically overnight showed indications
of having wide popularity. It has been played
by the leading dance orchestras of the country,
many of which announce it as one of the fea-
tures of their programs. In addition, as a love
song, it is frequently heard in vaudeville, and
the Irving Berlin, Inc., professional rooms are
feeling quite a demand from vaudevillians for
copies.

"Wrightman Songs Are Always
FEBRUARY 3,
"Dearest" is from the pen of Benny Davis, the
writer of "Margie," "Say It While Dancing" and
a long list of other popular successes. As a col-
laborator in this number he had the assistance
of Harry Akst, who is considered, from a musi-
cal standpoint, one of our best present-day song-
writers.
Benny Davis during the past two years has
not had his name on any song that could be
described as "a real lemon" and for this reason,
if for no other, the trade has come to look
forward to releases from his pen as of more
than ordinary merit, at least from a sales
standpoint.
LOUIS BERNSTEIN IN FLORIDA
Louis Bernstein, head of the music publishing
firm of Shapiro, Bernstein & Co., Inc., left early
this week for Palm Beach, Fla., accompanied
by Mrs. Bernstein. Walter Donaldson, the well-
known songwriter, who was to accompany the
party on their Southern trip, is now convalescing
in a hospital after undergoing an operation for
appendicitis.
JACK MILLS ON SOUTHERN TOUR
Jack Mills, head of Jack Mills, Inc., is away
on a trade trip through the South, Southwest
and Pacific Coast territory, where he is fea-
turing the new leading numbers from his cata-
log, including "Gallagher and Shean," "Kitten
on the Keys," "When You and 1 Were Young,
Maggie, Blues," "It's a Wonderful World After
All," and a series of novelty piano solos. Mr.
Mills will be gone quite some time and accord-
ing to reports is meeting with the greatest
of success in placing the numbers of his catalog
with the dealers upon whom he has been call-
ing during his trip.
