Raw Materials From Foreign Sources Hard to

The Welte-Mignon Corp., New York, is at
present putting on the market a most artistic
line of Welte cabinet players. Most of these

An insufficiency in the supply of raw mate-
rials has been felt recently by piano manufac-
turers in Germany, according to reports from
the United States Department of Commerce.
Many concerns have been unable to procure
lumber and veneers from abroad because of the
depreciation in the value of the mark and the
lack of capital invested. Transportation facili-
ties have been exceedingly poor, goods often
being en route three or four weeks longer than
the normal time, with the general result that
Germany's piano export business has shown a
general decline since December, 1922.
Since George W. Gittins, president of the
company, announced his open territory policy
and put into effect the manufacture of these
new cabinets there has been a tremendous de-
mand for them.

GRAND PIANOS FOR PULLMANS
Grand pianos will be part of the new equip-
ment of Pullman cars, according to recent
statements made by that company. On South
American railroads dining cars are equipped
with pianos and on some of the roads the parlor
cars also have them. Except for phonographs
on some Pacific Coast roads, no attempt to
entertain travelers with music has been made
in this country. The new cars turned out by
the Pullman concern will embody a number of
innovations and will be the most costly yet
built. The cars will be named after the presi-
dents, the first one being called "President
Harding."
