be the rule. The sheet music business is the
sweetest little profit earner I know of, if it is
handled right, and I know many firms that are
handling it right and who prove my conten
tion; and if it is handled wrong, like any other
business, it is anything but sweet.
In conclusion, it may be said that the Credit
Bureau will continue its operations, that it will
be just as fair as it knows how to every dealer
upon which it reports, and that no purpose is
served by withholding information from it or
denying co-operation. In the collection of past
due accounts it will proceed along just lines,
but it will not tolerate, if it can prevent, the
defrauding of our members. It will encourage
the honest dealer in every way it can and dis-
courage the dishonest one.
It will lend its co-operation to the adjustment
of any situation wherein a dealer finds himself
in financial difficulties, provided, always, that the
dealer "comes clean" in the statement of his
affairs.

Even the Post Office Officials Now Recognize
It by That Name
When George Lottman, publicity and adver-

decided to use the phrase "The House That
Jack Built" in all that firm's advertising he
never dreamed that it would become as popu-

the line, "Publishers of Farewell Blues," may
have given the post office employes a clue. At
any rate it demonstrates the value of publicity.
TWO HARMS NUMBERS RELEASED
THE FIRST "NATURAL" OF 1923
Harms, Inc., announces that "Morning Will
Come" and "Don't Cry Swanee," which were
held up until the opening of the Jolson "Bombo"
show in New York, will now be released to the
profession generally. Al Jolson is one of the
co-authors of the numbers.

Although there is an excuse for people allied
with the music business in some way or an-
other, the officials of the Mills house are won-

THE MUSIC TRADE REVIEW
Looks Like a Sensation!
FOX-TROT SONG SUCCESS
JUNE 9,
1923
THREE NEW POPULAR W1TMARK HITS
"Long-lost Mamma," "Slow Poke" and "Bebe"
All Reported in Wide Demand
HIT/AL\yAYX-,HIT//i'ONLY
Used by Leading Orchestras Everywhere
Among the other popular successes that M.
Witmark-& Sons are taking along with them in
moving from the old Witmark Building on West
Thirty-seventh street to the new modern and
spacious quarters taken over by this firm at
1650 Broadway are three new hits. One of these
is "Long-lost Mamma, Daddy Misses You," a
fox-trot blues song by Harry Woods that looks
like one of the season's big successes. "Long-
lost Mamma" is a bit different and attracts at-
tention. Then there's "Slow Poke," another
real novelty in a slow fox-trot, by Faggen and
Gold, combining some good melody with a hu-
morous twist in the words. There's nothing
slow about "Slow Poke" outside of its title. The
last of the trio of new fox-trot hits is "Bebe,"
by Sam Coslow and Abner Silver, the composer
of such other recent successes as "Angel Child,"
"Say It While Dancing," "Carry Me Back to My
Carolina Home" and "When Will the Sun Shine
for Me"—all Witmark songs, by the way. Pro-
fessionally and commercially, "Bebe," "Slow
Poke" and "Long-lost Mamma" constitute a
healthy trio of popular favorites.

PLAZA CO. EXTENDS SERVICE
Places All Facilities at the Command of the
Dealer in Everything Musical
The Plaza Music Co., the well-known New
York music distributor, has greatly enlarged
its dealer service during recent months. Ac-
cording to Sol Kronberg, of the above com-
pany, while the sheet music business of the
company is quite Large, it is only one part of
the activities of the firm's business, the Plaza
Co. having departments for talking machines,
particularly portables, records, Jewel music
rolls, needles and every conceivable supply for
either the talking machine, sheet music or piano
dealer. The Plaza Co. states that this adds
considerably to the service it can give the re-
tailer. It makes it possible for the trade to
get practically all its needs from one source,
thereby simplifying the ordering of goods,
making- for prompt deliveries.

MORAN TRANSFERS ITS CATALOG
Vincennes Publisher's Popular Songs Now
Handled by Alton J. Stevens, of Chicago
The Sherman, Clay & Co. number, "Just a
Bit of Irish Lace," has taken the position of
being one of the best high-class concert num-
bers of the season. A long list of artists are
programming it and as an encore selection it
has met the approval of thousands of concert-
goers. Among others programming this song
is Raphael Odierno, who has met unusual suc-
cess.
The Moran Music Publishing Co., Vincennes,
Ind., has transferred its catalog of popular
songs to Alton J. Stevens, Chicago music pub-
lisher, who, as sales representative, will supply
dealers and jobbers with the following Moran
numbers: "Radio," "Radio Blues," "My Beau-
tiful Dreams" and "At the Rainbow's End."
Both "Radio," a waltz number, and "My Beau-
tiful Dreams" have been recorded on Columbia
records.
Peter Barnard, of London, England, has taken
over the British rights of the Moran Music
Publishing Co.'s songs. L. F. Collins, Mel-
bourne, is distributor in Australia and New
Zealand, and Prof. H. Mosher, of Nova Scotia,
is Canadian distributor.
COURTNEYS SING MILLS SONG
The Jack Mills, Inc., song "Just a Girl That
Men Forget" was recently introduced by the
Courtney Sisters, the well-known vaudeville
team, with so much success that they have
given it the leading position in their program.
"Just a Girl That Men Forget," although only
recently released, has shown unusual activity
for a new number. The professional depart-
ment of the Mills organization will place it in
numerous vaudeville acts during the Summer
and early Fall season.
