THIRTY=F1FTH^VEAR IN BUSINESS
Will Rossiter, the Chicago Publisher, Gives In-
teresting Story of Incident in Thirty-five
Years in the Music Publishing Field
CHICACO, 111., May 26.—This month marks the
thirty-fifth year that Will Rossiter, the well-
known Chicago publisher, with headquarters at
30 West Lake street, has been in the music
publishing business and brings out an interest-
ing incident in his success in featuring some of
the most popular numbers.
Many years ago Will Rossiter wrote to Tony
Pastor, of the Fourteenth Street Theatre, New
York, stating that he had in his employ a
young man that he would like very much to
send on to New York in the interests of his
songs. Within a few clays Mr. Rossiter re-
ceived a letter from the manager of the theatre
saying that it would be perfectly satisfactory
to- send this man on and that he would give
him a tryout at the theatre with several en-
gagements. Mr. Rossiter acknowledged this
letter by saying that he would send on his
young composer and that he would introduce
himself as W. R. Williams. Mr. Williams was
then given a tryout and a week's engagement.
At the end of the week he was given another
week and so on until he had worked at that
theatre six consecutive weeks, a record which
is said has never since been equaled by any
single act. Tony Pastor died without knowing
that W. R. Williams and Will Rossiter were
one and the same man.
Mr. Rossiter has continued all these years in
the business, publishing such nationally known
songs as "Meet Me To-night in Dreamland,"
"Don't You Remember the Time" and many
others. These songs have been written under
the name of W. R. Williams and published
under Mr. Rossiter's own name. Mr. Rossiter
is well known among the trade as a business
man of ability, but few know that he com-
posed some of his most popular songs.
NEW FRANK J L J R O W N SONG
Frank Tv. I'.rown, Walton, N. Y., is the writer
and publisher of a song entitled "The Heart
of a Home Sweet Home." The above writer is
also the composer of "Come Hack to Dixie,"
"Will You Be My Sweetheart?" and "Dixie
Life Rag."
Frank Silva
prior to its issue in song form, was one of the
bywords of the street. The lyric found imme-
diate appeal and the melody is whistled fre-
quently, showing that its popularity is quite ex-
tensive.
The majority of orchestras are playing it in
fox-trot form with a vocal passage sung by
the members which is often joined in by those
on the dance floor. From present indications
this number is to be one of the most popular
of the Summer ollerings. It is scheduled for
early release on practically every talking ma-
chine record and player roll.
Frank Silva, head of the organization known
as Frank Silva and His Music Masters, which
recently closed a long engagement at Murray's,
New York, together with Irving Cohu, is re-
sponsible for this over-night success. Mr.
Silva is particularly well-known in music pub-
lishing circles. His present offering, however,
gives him unusual prominence and will make
his name known to the trade at large to a
greater extent than ever.

featured in Chicago: "Ten T h o u s a n d Years
From N o w , " " W h e n Will the Sun Shine for
Me" and " F a t e . " T h e latter is still very popular
and playing at all the leading theatres. " T e n

Japanese ballad, the music being written by
Ernest R. I'.ail and the lyrics by J. Kern Bren-
nan.

a "Novelty Blues Song Folio" containing ten
complete numbers from the Triangle catalog.
All the material is successful numbers issued
