WO WEEKS AGO we announced the
policy of "Open Territory" for Welte-
built instruments.
In this article we now wish to briefly
describe the instruments themselves.
To begin with,
Welte-built in-

t r a d i t i onally
superior.
Medals, Decorations, Diplomas and Orders have
been lavished upon it, and its instruments have
received unlimited praise from eminent musicians
wherever music has warmed the heart of man.
But it was not until 1904 that the crowning
achievement of

was attained.

Mignon became an integral part of an upright
piano resembling the upright instruments in use
today. And up until the time I bought the Welte
business, the Welte-Mignon had never been in-
corporated in a Grand piano.
Since 1917, which was the year I bought M.
Welte & Sons, we have achieved wonders with
the Welte-Mignon.
In the first place, we have entirely discontinued
the use of the wide, cumbersome music rolls,
building all of our Welte-Mignon instruments at
present with standard 9-to-the-inch trackers and
with bottom actions which have been very greatly
simplified and
lessened in size. IP
But as the first

in the artistic-
character of its

4. There are no drawers beneath the piano or side
curtains to hide an unsightly mechanism, nor
are the rims of the cases deepened, thereby
destroying their symmetry of design.
These Welte-built Welte-Mignon Grands are pre-
sented to the piano trade, at large, in the confi-
dent belief that, as the original Welte-Mignon
was the "marvel of marvels" when it first intro-
duced the art of reproducing a pianistic perform-
ance, this modern type of instrument in like man-
ner represents the highest artistic development
yet attained in the field of reproductive music.
Likewise a modern type Welte-built Welte-Mig-
non upright has been developed, a beautiful style
of plain and
simple design
