Kansas City Star Broadcasts Musical Comedy
Written Specially for That Purpose
Since its removal to its new quarters in the
Navex Building on Forty-sixth street, next to
the home of the National Vaudeville Artists, the
Edward B. Marks Music Co. has shown unusual
activity. Its new location is ideal for the re-
ception of vaudeville artists and orchestra lead-
ers, and the result is that the professional, bank
and orchestra and executive departments arc
quite busy.
Edward B. Marks, head of the music pub-
lishing concern bearing his name, recently an-
nounced the acquisition of a number of new,
songs by prominent writers. Included in these
are "Way Down Home," by Walter Donaldson,
writer of "Georgia," "Mammy," "Gin, Gin, Ginny
Shore," and other successes; "At the Darktown
Flappers' Ball," by Bernie Grossman and Irving
Maslof, writers of "Tell Her at Twilight," and
a new promising number by Bennie Davis, writer
of "Margie," "Angel Child," etc. Other num-
bers have been selected from the pens of Pete
.Wendling and Max Kortlander, who in the past
have contributed many popular hits to the world
of music.
This new announcement includes the news that
the Edward B. Marks Music Co. has arranged
a contract with Gus Edwards whereby the Marks
firm will publish his two latest numbers, "Won-
derful You," and "Let's Mend the Crack in the
Liberty Bell."
"Wonderful You" is a melody fox-trot song,
with a lyric that should assist it greatly in
achieving popularity. "Let's Mend the Crack in
the Liberty Bell" is a very catchy tune with
clever and timely lyrics by Will D. Cobb.
Both of the latter numbers are features in
Gus Edwards' Fifteenth Annual Song Revue now
playing the Orpheum Circuit and are also fea-
tured in Murray's new revue by Miss Nester
and Mario Villani.
Judging from hundreds of window displays it
is evident that the wider the window the better
it lends itself for sheet music display purposes.

times a problem nevertheless.
S. J. Basta, who operates a music store in
Cleveland, O., has a window which is sixteen
feet wide. This is far above the average window
in width and its very width affords an oppor-
tunity of arranging title pages in an attractive
manner without in any way making the setting

look crow T ded. Personally, we are of the opinion
that a few well-arranged title pages attract more
attention and carry a better message than the
showing of a great many pieces of music. In
this instance, however, Mr. Basta has succeeded
in making a showing of the Century Edition in
a manner which attracted attention and created
comment as well as sales. It might be further
sa : d that Mr. Basta has made a special study
of window displays and their effect on the pub-
lic and is a strong advocate of specialized dis-
plays. That, after all, is the real criterion of
any publicity showing—the results—and this
Cleveland store succeeds in getting just that.

Appendicitis
Herbert Keit, brother of Joe Keit, of the
firm of Jerome H. Remick & Co., died last week
at St. Luke's Hospital, New York, from compli-
cations which set in after an operation for ap-
pendicitis. The operation, which was performed
several weeks ago, seemingly was successful and
the patient was on the road to recovery. Com-
plications, however, set in after his release from
the hospital which made it necessary for him
to return. He was a member of the insurance
firm of Keit & Rose.

NOW IS THE TIME
C. C. CHURCH A>I> COMPANY
HAHTFORD, CONNECTICUT
Hartford—New York—London—Paris—Sydney
The Tindale Cabinet Co., 159 West Fifty-
seventh street. New York City, manufacturer of
the Tindale music filing cabinets, decided, early
this year, to distribute its products exclusively
through the retailer. Although the company had
had more than a little success in its direct-to-
consumer sales which resulted from national ad-
vertising, the sales organization felt the need of
appointing representatives in various localities
which would allow the several models to be
shown at first hand. The national advertising
was originally arranged to help dealer sales,
although in many instances the response was
direct.
In order to interest the dealer and make it
profitable for him to carry such goods, the com-
pany arranged two stock offers, either of which
gives substantial profit to the retailer on every
sale.
Stock offer No. 1 is made up of three models,
styles E, KB and style O, an* the No. 2 is com-
posed of five cabinets, styles E, O, KB, G and
GXV.
Since the announcement of these offers close to
100 additional dealers have already stocked Tin-
dale cabinets and the offer has only been in
force a very short time.
To those who are not acquainted with Tindale
music filing cabinets, a little description of their
merits will be of interest. The Tindale cabinet
allows the filing of music in small compartments
easily accessible and by reference to the index
catalog any given piece can be located at a mo-
ment's time. The old manner of filing music on
shelves in large bulk is done away with; the upper
trays of the cabinet are one inch in depth to
hold sheet music, while the lower trays are
double this depth and are intended for studies,
music folios, collections, ensemble music and any
material of greater bulk than the usual sheet
music. The filing system assures perfect order
and yet is so simple as to require little attention.
The trays have metal edges which fit in grooves
and move in and out without binding. An open-
ing in the tray-bottom makes it easy to examine
the titles without removing the music or tray
from the cabinet.
Tindale cabinets are constructed of reinforced
or built-up wood; this makes for durability and

NEW CENTURY CATALOG
