"When the Leaves Come Tumbling Down"
The Lions' Club of Newark, N. J., had an
exceptionally interesting luncheon on Wednes-
day, November 1, at which the guests of honor
were Otto Kahn, the banker and philanthropist,
and Frederick W. Vanderpool, the well-known
composer. Mr. Kahn had just returned from
a European trip and gave an extremely vivid
account of the conditions as he found them in
the various countries visited. Mr. Vanderpool
had two of his songs rendered by Miss Emily
Beglin, a soprano, formerly with the Metro-
politan Opera Co., " 'Neath the Autumn Moon"
and "Heart to Heart." All the above songs are
published by M. Witmark & Sons.
Recently there were described in these col-

the Playhouse, New York City. The piece is
written by Frank Craven, the well-known au-

number for window display purposes, partic-
ularly at this season, sets it somewhat apart
from the usual run of songs. One such display
was recently made by the S. S. Kresge store
of Buffalo, a reproduction of which is herewith
shown. The use of the Autumn leaves to lend
the proper atmosphere produces a very artistic
effect.

CHICAGO
Will Rossiter, the Chicago publisher, has un-
doubtedly had one of the most successful years
in his career. His company has been particu-
larly fortunate in its selection of popular num-
bers and has exploited them with much energy
and unusual publicity.
Of additional importance to the trade is the
manner in which the publications of the com-
pany are issued. The title pages are on the
best of stock, most artistically designed, and
the titles themselves are arranged in a way to
attract the purchaser's attention. One of the
first and most successful issues of the year in
this catalog was the song, "In Bluebird Land."
Issued in a multi-colored, lithographed title
page, it did ample justice to the issue. Of
particular interest also is the title page of
"I'm Waiting in Dreamland for You," an ar-
tistic covering, advantageously featuring the ar-
tists, Vivian Holt and Lillian Rosedale. Among
the more popular issues in the catalog are
"Those Longing for You Blues," "Some of
These Days" and "Trot Along."

This manner of displaying a song and hooking
up with the publicity it was receiving in local
theatres did much to increase sales during the
week in question.
