he declared that too many music dealers are

WHERE THE MUSIC LOST ITS APPEAL
Convicts at Fort Leavenworth Appreciate Hu-
mor of the Song, "I'll Stand Beneath Your
Window To-night and Whistle"
When the band and orchestra department of
Jack Mills, Inc., music publisher, at 152-4 West
Forty-fifth street, New York, recently received
a request for a late orchestration and profes-
sional copy from Convict No. 24769, Federal
Penitentiary, Fort Leavenworth, Kan., it im-
mediately dispatched to that place orchestra
and singing copies of "I'll Stand Beneath Your
Window To-night and Whistle," Georgie
Price's hit in the Winter Garden production,
"Spice of 1922." The following letter has been
received in reply:
"Gentlemen: It was a clever stroke of un-
i onscious irony on your part to send me 'I'll
Stand Beneath Your Window To-night and
Whistle,' inasmuch as my position and that of
the Saturday and Sunday night audiences here
prevents us from standing beneath anybody's
window—much less whistling. We know the
joke was quite unintentional, however. Please
rush 'Deedle Deedle Dura,' that funny little
fox-trot.
"Gratefully,
"Convict No. 24769."
UKRAINIAN CHORUS COMING
It is reported that Max Rabinoff, who origi-
nally introduced the Ballet Russe with Anna
Pavlowa to America, has arranged to bring the
Ukrainian National Chorus to the United
States for a four months' tour. The chorus,
which numbers forty singers, has completed a
very successful tour of Europe in programs of
Ukrainian folk music.
BENNETT TWINS WITH "BOMBO"
The Bennett Twins, well known in vaudeville
and in revues, have been put-under a two-year
contract to appear in Al Jolson's production of
"Bombo." This is scheduled to open for a run
in Chicago on September 1.
