WASHINGTON, D. C, November 21.—A request
Announcement has been made of the appoint-
ment of C. I. Phillips as manager of the music
has been received by the Bureau of Foreign and
Domestic Commerce from a Large mercantile con-
cern in Chile, South America, that it be placed
in touch with American manufacturers of pianos
with the idea in view of making a large purchase.
It is requested that correspondence be in Span-
ish, and price quotations should be c. i. f. (cost,
insurance and freight) Talcahuano, Chile. Manu-
facturers can secure complete details by address-
ing the Bureau and referring to inquiry No. 207.

GREATER IMPORTS OF MAHOGANY
Figures of the Department of Commerce at
Washington show that we imported during the
fiscal year ending with June 58,090,000 feet of
mahogany timber, valued at $6,645,314, as com-
pared with 41,635,000 feet the previous fiscal
year, valued at $5,464,819. The showing is greater
in quantity but somewhat less in value than for
the calendar year ending with last December,
which indicates that there has been some reduc-
tion in inflated cost and a steady pick-up in the
volume of mahogany logs coming forward.
About half of the mahogany came from Cen-
tral America and Mexico, and a third of it direct
from Africa, which points plainly to the fact that
we are now importing most of our mahogany
direct and are getting the bulk of it from the
near-by and Latin-American countries, but we
are increasing our importations of African ma-
hogany.
A review of present conditions and the out-
look for wool products will feature the meeting
of the American Association of Woolen and
Worsted Manufacturers on December 7 at the
Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York. Leaders
in the woolen and associated trades will be pres-
ent and various problems of the industry will be
discussed. In the evening the fifteenth annual
dinner will be enjoyed.

WASHINGTON, D. C, November 21.—The Federal
Trade Commission has announced the dismissal
without prejudice of its formal complaint against
the P. A. Starck Piano Co. The Commission's
complaint charged unfair methods of competi-
tion. Dismissal was ordered following investiga-
tion, trial and formal argument on the charges.
