PARROT SINGS "DOWN YONDER"
Rendition of Wolfe Gilbert Song at Ye Olde
Cheshire, London, Makes Geraghty Home-sick
Wolfe Gilbert, the well-known songwriter and
bead of the L. Wolfe Gilbert Music Corp., re-
cently received the following letter from Tom J.
Geraghty, director-general of the Famous
Players-Lasky Corp., 10 Hanover square, W.I,
London, England. The letter speaks for itself
and proves that the old atmosphere of the
famous place described therein has not changed:
"Dear Wolfe:
"I must write you this. Last night I was at
Ye Oldc Cheshire—the most famous restaurant
in London—where Chas. Dickens, Thackeray,
Dr. Ben Johnson, etc., hung out and told lies
to each other.
"They now have a famous parrot there. To
my surprise and genuine delight the parrot (who
can curse and everything) started off singing
'Down Yonder.' It made me home-sick, more
anon.
"I had a great time with Chaplin over here.
Next week I'll be entertaining 'Mary and Doug.'
"Hoping you are in the best of health and
looking forward to your coming over here. You
certainly must come over.
"Your friend,
Tom J. Geraghty."

CRAWFORD ON TRIP
AMERICAN SONGS FOR PORTLAND
Irving Berlin, Inc., Sales Manager to Visit
Branches in Various Cities
Consignment of Flammer Co. Numbers Received
by Portland Piano Co.—Some of the Popular
Prints That Are in Current Demand
Robert Crawford, sales manager of Irving
Berlin, Inc., left New York early this week on
a ten days' trade trip, which will include visits
to some of the branch offices of the company, in-
cluding Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington
and Middle West territory. Before he left Mr
Crawford stated:
"The unusual campaign in behalf of 'Say It
W 7 ith Music' is already bringing in large re-
turns. We have no doubt that it will be the
most successful number published in years. The
support of the entire trade, of course, is given
on the number's merit, but the fact that it makes
good propaganda for the music trade in general
has added to its value."
PORTLAND, ORE., October 29.—The sheet music
department of the Portland Piano Co., in charge
of Kathleen Benoit-Campbell, has just received
a consignment of pleasing American songs, pub-
lished by the Harold Flammer Publishing Co., in-
cluding the Russell publication, "Children of
Men"; Bryceson Treharne's "Mother, My Dear,"
LaForge's "Where the West Begins" and Anne
Stratton-Miller's "Boats of Mine."
Octavia Stone, manager of the sheet music de-
partment of the McDougall Music Co., says
"Business is very good and the music teachers
are giving large orders," which keep her on the
jump. Miss Stone says that among the popular
numbers at the present time are "Oh Me, Oh
My" from "Two Little Girls in Blue," "Sally,

Mary M. Hopkins, of New Market, Md., is the
writer and publisher of a new song, entitled "I
Want You, Dear Heart, to Want Me." The
number, although only issued a short time ago,
has already been programmed by a long list of
vaudeville and concert stars. Included among
the indorsers are Elsie Baker and Dorothy
Jardon. The song has an exceptionally striking
title page.
