SCHOOLS HELP TWIN CITY TRADE
Demands of Teachers and Students Enliven
Sheet Music Business
: ST. PAUL, MINN., October 10.—Sales of sheet
music, books, etc., received a tremendous im-
petus in Minneapolis and St. Paul when the
schools opened last month. Music is intensively
cultivated in Ihe schools of both cities and this
year the interest in choral works, solos, both
vocal and instrumental, and orchestral compo-
sitions has developed to a degree hitherto un-
known.
"The wide interest in music in the schools
has been most encouraging to the sheet music
dealers," explained J. A. Simons, head of that
department in the Metropolitan Music Co. "Not
only have the schools come to the aid of this
department, but there has been a general de-
mand from the public. Most encouraging of all,
however, has been the revival of public interest
in rolls. This branch of the music trade has
been very slow, but now it is full of life, for
which we all are truly grateful."
For once in a lifetime there is no popular air
to bring a rush to the music counters and rec-
ord collections. The absence of a popular song
is a phenomenon in the music world that no
dealer in the Twin Cities will undertake to ex-
plain. They are quite indifferent, however, for
general business is excellent.

Brooklyn, N. Y., was recently announced.
