which has 1,420 volumes. The sheet music de-
partment of the store is in charge of Miss Oc-

song, "Moonlight Hours," by Catherine Bernard,
who is composer of "Come Back and Drive the
Clouds Away," is being featured. The Port-
land public are playing, singing and whistling it.
THE "SCANDALS OF 1921"

FRED HELTMAN CO., Cleveland, 0.
(Established 1908)
Irving Berlin, the songwriter and head of
Irving Berlin, Inc., was in Yorkville Police
Court, New York, recently to press a complaint
against Max Greenberg, nineteen years old, who,
it is alleged, has been using Berlin's name.
It was bad enough, Mr. Berlin said, to have
his name used by a man who signed checks in
restaurants and started flirtations with young
women in distant States, but when it came to
asking a butler, in the name of Irving Berlin,
to lend him money, Mr. Berlin thought that
some charge involving a cruel and unusual pun-
ishment ought to lie against the defendant.
He had learned, Mr. Berlin continued, that
Greenberg had obtained permission to use the
telephone at the home of Mrs. Randolph Gug-
genheimer, 923 Fifth avenue, saying he was Irv-
ing Berlin, and then had returned and tried to
borrow money from Mrs. Guggenheimer's butler.
Greenberg was held for examination on a charge
indicating suspicion of forgery.

WILL JACOBS' EXTENDED TRIP
YOUNG ARTIST MAKING GOOD
CHURCH'S "EDITION BEAUTIFUL"
Popular Representative of Irving Berlin, Inc.,
Covering West and South—Conditions Improved
Jack Osterman Using "Who'll Be the Next One
to Cry Over You?" With Much Success
Artistically Produced Standard Music Issued by
C. C. Church & Co. Increases in Favor
Will Jacobs, traveling representative of Irving
Berlin, Inc., recently completed a Canadian trade
trip and is now covering the larger cities
Jack Osterman, one of the newer additions to
the ranks of vaudeville artists, is only nineteen,
but in a short space of time he has received
recognition that stamps him as a star.
Jack Osterman is the son of Kathryn Oster-
man, the charming actress who is well known
for character parts, and J. J. Tosenthal, the
peer of theatrical newspaper advance men,
known from coast to coast.
It is now understood that Osterman is being
considered by one of the large producers for a
leading part in a coming musical show and his
friends predict that he will be a huge success
in this field.
Osterman is singing with success the latest
Johnny Black number, "Who'll Be the Next
One to Cry Over You?" This number, pub-
lished by Goodmart & Rose, Inc., is being ex-
ploited" by the Edward B. Marks Music Co.,
which is the exclusive agent for the publishers.
Reports constantly arriving show that despite
depressions that are felt in various parts of
the country' the sales of standard works are
hardly affected. Another indication of this is
shown by the success of the C. C. Church &
Co. "Edition Beautiful." This edition, launched
last Summer, is now carried by over 1,500 deaU
ers, who, according to the sales manager of the
Church organization, are giv?hg the company
active co-operation in placing the issue before
music purchasers.
Up to this time the exploitation campaign
on. the "Edition Beautiful" has been confined, to
a great extent, to the large and medium-sized
cities, but the publishers.expect during the com-
ing season to concentrate on the smaller cen-
ters, where it is hoped to add most substantially
to their representation.
Although they are not known as a strictly
popular house, C. C. Church & Co. have pub-
lished several popular hits, among which are
"Dear Heart" and more recently Eddie Cantor's
"Baby."
NEW SPECIES OF COMPETITION
Musical comedies, revues and special vaude-
ville shows, presented as musical plays, will,
after a lapse of about six years, have the compe-
tition of foreign operettas and musical plays of
the better class to compete with during the
coming season. Already there are two of these
opened on Broadway and the Fall will see
dozens of productions of such caliber.
Among these, the rights of which are already
secured for American presentation, are: "The
Love Devil," which ran over two hundred times
in Vienna; "The Fairy Tale of a Great City,"
Will Jacobs
throughout the Middle West, which is to be which is still running there; "Hazard," "The
Village Musicians," another operetta by Oscar
followed by a trip to Southern territory.
In a recent letter to The Review Mr. Jacobs Straus, and "The Sweetest of All," by Jean Gil-

popular prints and indications point to at least
a normal Summer season.

TO CARRY MORE JAZZ TO LONDON
Under the direction of Cecil 1. Crouse, of
Philadelphia, a student orchestra of Princeton
University students will this Summer carry
American jazz to London, where the orchestra
has been engaged to play at the Savoy Hotel.
The organization, rated as the best of numerous
Princeton' bands, will play in London through
July and August, leaving New York for the other
side aboard the steamship "Olympic" on June 25.
Among memlbers of the orchestra are: E. M.
Wilson and Tevis Huhn, of Philadelphia; F. M.
Roudebush, of Memphis; F. M. Blow, of Chicago,
and Richard Berry and Gordon Pyle, of New
York.
MUSIC IN "DREAM STREET"
"Dream Street," the D. W. Griffith motion
picture, now playing at the Town Hall, New
York City, has an especially arranged musical
score which incorporates in the most important
situations Felix Arndt's "Marionette," published
by the Sam Fox Publishing Co., New York and
Cleveland, O.
WINNING POPULAR FAVOR
Max Kortlander is the composer and Chas.
K. Harris is the publisher of a new song which
seems to be winning popular favor, entitled "In
Santa Barbara." This is a fox-trot number
which lends itself to original and novel ar-
rangements and is appealing to the orchestra
leaders.
