BRITISH PUBLISHERS COMPLAIN
NEW FEIST DANCE FOLIO
Contracts recently were closed by the Cen-
tury Music Co. with eight of the leading na-
tionally known magazines for the 1921 adver-
tising campaign, in which, as usual, the "Century
Edition" will be featured. The following are
the publications that will carry the Century
copy:
Good Housekeeping, The Delineator, Pictorial
Review, The Woman's Home Companion,
Mother's Magazine, Musical Courier, Red Book
and McClure's.
British music publishers are complaining that
large quantities of cheap popular music are ar-
riving from the United States. These publishers
state that they cannot sell in the United States
on account of the prohibitive tariff which is
placed on imported music there, while on the
other hand this music is admitted into Great
Britain duty free. Italy and Germany are also
reported to be sending consignments of such
music, to the consequent detriment of the Brit-
ish industry.
Leo Feist, Inc., has just issued a new dance
folio which includes the latest song hits ar-
ranged as fox-trots, one-steps and waltzes. The
retail price of the new folio is one dollar, with
an introductory offer to the trade that gives the
dealer close to two hundred per cent profit. This
new book has been issued in a quality way and
has a most attractive title page. Mention of it
will be made in much of the Feist advertising
material.
"HEART OF MINE" RECORDED
WM. KENT USING "SHADOW"
"Heart of Mine," the new fox-trot ballad pub-
lished by Jack Mills, Inc., is booked for early
release on a number of the leading talking ma-
chine records and player rolls. "Heart of
Mine" is from the pens of Sydney Caine, Annelu
Burns and Madelyn Shepard.
William Kent, who up to some time was
playing in "Pitter Patter" at the Longacre
Theatre, New York, opened recently in Ray
Goetz's "Vogues and Vanities" in Springfield,
Mass., in which he features the new novelty
song, "Shadow," written by Kendis & Brock-
man, known as the "James" boys. "Vogues
and Vanities" will shortly open in Boston, where
it is booked for a long run.

THAT Dave Wohlman, of the professional staff
of Irving Berlin, Inc., recently announced his
engagement to Dorothy Koppel.
THAT Ernest R. Lambert, of the traveling staff
ot B. D. Nice & Co., was recently appointed
professional manager of the company.
THAT Wolfe Gilbert recently formed the L.
Wolfe Gilbert Music Co., taking in his brothers,
Bob and Isadore.
THAT on Friday, a week ago, L. Wolfe Gilbert
was presented with a son. On Saturday his
brother Bob was presented with the same sort
of a reproduction, and on Sunday I. Wolfe Gil-
bert announced the arrival of a girl. Some
family and working in unity.
THAT Jerome H. Remick & Co. office employes
and out-of-town branch office managers are to
hold their annual beefsteak dinner at Healy's on
December 3.
THAT the new club, "Beggars & Choosers," is
to shortly hold a beefsteak dinner.
THAT, apparently, the members of this body all
belong to the prosperous end of the music
business.
THAT this was indicated at their recent luncheon,
where the topic of conversation centered on
the price of "hootch."
THAT the only lady member of the organization,
Mary Earle, was also present at the same affair.
THAT according to a New York restaurateur, no
less than Thomas Healy, prohibition has sounded
the death knell of jazz.
THAT those who had claimed that lively melodies
would take the place of hootch now have a chance
to prove Healy is wrong.
THAT the cabarets that have been trying to get
along with women and song, and without the
wine, haven't looked very prosperous.
THAT Harding has declared he is strong for the
cause of music, which statement, coming after
he was elected, should carry some weight.

NEW BALL NUMBER A SUCCESS
As large and record-breaking as were the
sales of Ernest R. Ball's popular ballad, "Let
the Rest of the World Go liy," his newest song,
"Down the Trail to Home, Sweet Home," bids
fair to surpass not only that but all his previous
records. It is sung by hundreds of professional
singers, who call it an immediate success.
Marion Harris and Dolly Kay, a vaudeville
team now playing the Keith circuit, are singing
with success the Jack Mills, Inc., song, "Sweet
Mama" (Papa Is Getting Mad). Miss Harris
has also recorded the number for the Columbia
Graphophone Co.
