Paul Dresser's Song, "The Wabash," Made
Hoosier State River Famous—Terre Haute
Park System May Be Dedicated to Him
Friends and admirers of the late Paul Dresser,
whose song, "The Wabash," brought fame to
the Hoosier State river, have started a move-
ment to have his ashes officially claimed by
the State of Indiana and suitably interred.
Present plans are indefinite, but provide for a
grave and memorial for the singer either in
Indianapolis or Terre Haute, where the song
writer was born.
A part of a recent addition of Terre Haute's
public park system, including an extensive tract
on the east bank of the Wabash, will eventually
be dedicated, it is said, as Paul Dresser Drive.
Confidence is expressed that the next Indiana
Assembly will take steps to assist in the proj-
ect, as at a previous session "The Wabash" was
officially adopted as the State song.
Paul Dresser's body now lies in a small ceme-
tery, St. Boniface's, located on the north side of
Chicago.

A musical show called "Rose of Washington
Square" is shortly to be produced. The book
and lyrics were written by Mrs. Harry L. Cort
and Mrs. Sharlee McClure. The latter is the
former wife of the manager of the" McClure
newspaper syndicate. James Hanley, who is re-
sponsible for the score, is also the author of the
song, "Rose of Washington Square."
FEATURING TWO NEW NUMBERS
Thomas Hughes, sales manager of Shapiro,
Bernstein & Co., Inc., inaugurated a big adver-
tising and publicity campaign on his firm's two
new numbers, "Palesteena" and "Caresses." At
the same time, the professional department of
the same firm is placing the number in the
hands of many vaudeville artists. Eddie Cantor
is already featuring it successfully in "Broad-
way Brevities."
