SEASON FOR SACRED MUSIC
Christmas Music Sought by Organists and
Church Singers—Harold Flammer, Inc., Has
New Numbers in Holiday Catalog
Is the Christmas spirit tingling through your
veins? If not, it will come upon you with the
Drumming
first snowfall. With the approach of Thanksgiv-
ing and the other holidays we turn naturally to
"Century Edition"
music to express our emotions. Organists and

church singers are constantly seeking new music
of a fitting character.
Some twenty years ago a boy sang in the
Norwich, N. Y., Presbyterian Church. He
breathed the .atmosphere that goes to make a
composer of sacred music. Since that time he
has rapidly progressed to where he is one of the
foremost writers of sacred songs in America.
That boy, grown to manhood, is John Prindle
Scott. His latest Thanksgiving song, "Come
Ye Thankful People," is typical of his best in
music, and his latest Christmas song, "O Little
Town of Bethlehem," which has particular
beauty and charm in its simple and lovely mel-
ody, has even at this early stage surpassed in
popularity all his fosmer compositions. This
same Christmas song has an optional obbligato
part and is also arranged for mixed voices.

The number has been recorded by most of the

Popular Artist Singing Numbers from Sam Fox
Catalog—Valuable Publicity for Songs
Elsie Baker, that most popular and favorite
artist, whose fine contralto voice has won for
her a host of friends and
admirers throughout the
country, is at present on
an extensive concert tour
and is featuring three
high-class song publica-
tions from the catalog of
the Sam Fox Publishing
Co.
"Lassie o' Mine," by E.
J. Walt; "It Was the Time
of Lilac," by Jane Hatha-
way, and "Heart's De-
Elsie Baker
light," a new James H.
Rogers composition, are the three numbers over
which Miss Baker is highly enthusiastic.
The fact that this artist is using these songs
means real publicity as Miss Baker has a large
following and fulfills many engagements each
season. Her excellent English diction and fine
interpretations result in her "putting over"
whatever songs she may sing.

WANT MEMORIAL FOR COMPOSER
Paul Dresser's Song, "The Wabash," Made
Hoosier State River Famous—Terre Haute
Park System May Be Dedicated to Him
Friends and admirers of the late Paul Dresser,
whose song, "The Wabash," brought fame to
the Hoosier State river, have started a move-
ment to have his ashes officially claimed by
the State of Indiana and suitably interred.
Present plans are indefinite, but provide for a
grave and memorial for the singer either in
Indianapolis or Terre Haute, where the song
writer was born.
A part of a recent addition of Terre Haute's
public park system, including an extensive tract
on the east bank of the Wabash, will eventually
be dedicated, it is said, as Paul Dresser Drive.
Confidence is expressed that the next Indiana
Assembly will take steps to assist in the proj-
ect, as at a previous session "The Wabash" was
officially adopted as the State song.
Paul Dresser's body now lies in a small ceme-
tery, St. Boniface's, located on the north side of
Chicago.

A musical show called "Rose of Washington
Square" is shortly to be produced. The book
and lyrics were written by Mrs. Harry L. Cort
and Mrs. Sharlee McClure. The latter is the
former wife of the manager of the" McClure
newspaper syndicate. James Hanley, who is re-
sponsible for the score, is also the author of the
song, "Rose of Washington Square."
FEATURING TWO NEW NUMBERS
Thomas Hughes, sales manager of Shapiro,
Bernstein & Co., Inc., inaugurated a big adver-
tising and publicity campaign on his firm's two
new numbers, "Palesteena" and "Caresses." At
the same time, the professional department of
the same firm is placing the number in the
hands of many vaudeville artists. Eddie Cantor
is already featuring it successfully in "Broad-
way Brevities."
