"Swanee," the T. B. Harms & Francis, Day
& Hunter number which was originally intro-
duced in Ned Wayburn's Revue at the Capitol
Theatre, New York, has now been taken from
that publishers' restricted list. Among those who
are now using it is Al Jolson, now en tour in
"Sinbad." Very recently he introduced it at the
show's opening in Newark, N. J., and the Jol-
son rendition of the number was received most
enthusiastically.
The words of the song are by I. Caesar and
the music is from the pen of George Gershwin.
As a dance number "Swanee" will without doubt
become one of the most popular of the present
season's works. This, with its popularity as a
song, will make its sales large.
The new publishing firm of Van Alstyne &
Curtis are featuring two numbers, "You'll
Never Know" and "Mississippi Shore," both
from the pen of Van Alstyne, the writer of a
long list of successful songs.

"Honey Girl," which is the re-written version
of "What's the Odds?" book by Edward
Clark, lyrics by Neville Fleeson and music by
Albert Von Tilzer, has been placed in rehear-
sal by Harris & Shannon, the producers. It
is thought the show will have its New York

Huntzinger & Dilworth have just issued a
folder for the use of the trade on their two new
American ballads, "Ashes of Dreams" and
"Bring Back the Golden Days." The words of
both numbers are from the pen of Marian Gil-
lespie, and the music for "Ashes of Dreams"
is by W. Frank Hading, while the music for
"Bring Back the Golden Days" is from the pen
of William Stickles. Both of these numbers are
receiving unusual publicity from the Huntzinger
& Dilworth organization and it is thought that
the songs will have more than the usual popu-
larity for numbers of such merit.

DITSON'S JANUARY NOVELTY LIST
New Songs and Instrumental Numbers Appear,
Featuring the American Composer First
The January Ditson monthly novelty list
offers some very attractive pieces of interest to
dealer, teacher, student and music lover. This
list contains an introduction by George W.
Pound, general counsel of the Music Industries
Chamber of Commerce, under the title of "Each
Day Give a Thought to Music." A valuable
feature is found on the page devoted to the
thematics of some of the new pieces, giving
the musician a chance to try it over before buy-
ing. In addition to the comprehensive list of
songs and instrumental numbers featuring
American composers, this January list also con-
tains some interesting text matter and some bits
of humor for idle moments. In the interests of
its dealers the Oliver Ditson Co. is preparing
to issue each month, in connection with its mu-
sic list, a page of selling points for dealers.
NEW DANIELS & WILSON SONGS

Wow, 1 a number from the pen of Wheeler
Wadsworth, a member of the All-Star Trio, and
"Samoa," a Moret and Weslyn number, together
with "Singapoo," described as a song of the
East, by Maude Fulton, completes the list of
