LONG LIST OF GOOD NUMBERS
•a waltz sensation
Found at Present in the Catalog of Chas. K,
Harris—Same of the Songs
Chas. K. Harris has at the present time an
excellent selection of songs and instrumental
numbers that have proven to be excellent sellers
and promise much for the future, particularly
as they are being used to a great extent by
prominent vaudeville artists.
The list includes a quartet of songs by Mr
Harris himself, they being "Ma Mississippi
Babe," "You Never Knew," "Just Let Me Creep
Back in Your Arms" and "Don't Wait Till I'm
Gone to Tell Me How Much You Love Me."
Songs by other writers include "It Might Have
Been," sung by Sylvia Clark; "I'm Wild About
Moonshine," Rae Samuels' hit; "Oh, How She
Can Dapce," as featured by Emma Carus; "Si-
mon and Healy and Cohen," Creamer and Lay-
ton's novelty, and other selections.
NEW IRISH BALLAD SUCCESS
McCarthy & Fisher Publishing Number That
Will Be Sung by McCormack
Fred Fisher, ever ready to add to his already
long list of actual hits, has "hit" it again. This
time it is a ballad of the Irish type by Alma
M. Sanders and Monte Carlo, entitled "Little
Town in the Ould County Down." There's a
rumor afoot that John McCormack has included
this sterling number in his repertoire.
ADVERTISE JAZZ EFFECTS IN HATS
The term "jazz," which has been confined to
v/eird music and to the unconventional, has now
been adopted by the ladies' furnishing trade.
Only the other day no less a house than Altman
& Co., New York, published an advertisement
announcing jazz effects in hats, parasols and
wrist bags. We may now expect to read of
"jazzy styles in suits for young- men," "the
latest jazz effects in women's coats," etc. The
next step will be right into the dictionary.

A Song of True Merit
By Edward J. Walt
Poem by Fred G. Bowles
"Lassie O'Mine" has suc-
ceeded on merit. Not one of
those overadvertised songs
which are forced upon the
public. With little previous
advertising it has gained in
prestige, recognition and
sales solely on merit. We
are now preparing to stimu-
late its sale and popularity.

NOTES FROM PORTLAND TRADE
"DANCE«0=MANIA" IS POPULAR
PORTLAND, ORE., May 1.—"Your Eyes Have
Told Me So," a Remick publication, is very
popular here. The Remick Song Shop has se-
cured the services of Lawrence Woodrin, a popu-
lar singer, who was with the Alcazar Co. during
the season just closed.
At the Mack Music Store a big freight ship-
ment of sheet music and books from the John
Church Co., of Cincinnati, was received, also
a shipment from the Schmidt Co., of Boston.
The public library is buying quantities of
new music, opera scores, technical and educa-
tional music books. The Portland public library
carries a good supply of music and a large num-
ber of people availed themselves of the oppor-
tunity given them of reading the latest musical
publications as well as studying the music.
L. Wolfe Gilbert's new fox-trot, "Dance-O-
Mania," which has proven so popular in the
East, is likewise winning success in the Chi-
cago district, as is evidenced by a recent let-
ter received by Gilbert & Friedland, Inc., from
A. L. Smith, leader of the orchestra at the
Golden Pheasant Inn, Chicago, in which he
declares that "Dance-O-Mania" is the biggest hit
in his repertory just now.
"ROYAL VAGABOND" IN CHICAGO
"The Royal Vagabond," the successful comic
opera, with score by Anselm Goetzl and George
M. Cohan, which played the whole season at
the New Amsterdam Theatre, New York, is
now having a very successful run in Chicago,
where its song hits "When the Cherry Blos-
soms Fall," "In a Kingdom of Our Own" and
"Democracy" are proving very popular. The
score is published by M. Witmark & Sons.
APPOINTED MANAGER IN CHICAGO
Max J. Stone has been appointed manager
of the Chicago office of Gilbert & Friedland,
Inc., and Charles Lanson has also been added
to the staff in the Windy City. The appoint-
ments were made by Harry Goodwin, assistant
general manager of Gilbert & Friedland.
TRINKAUS RENEWS WITH WITMARK
George J. Trinkaus, the well-known composer
and arranger, who has been connected with
M. Witmark & Sons for many years, has just
renewed his contract with that house for a
term of years. He is recognized as one of the
best arrangers in the field and several of his
instrumental numbers' have enjoyed wide suc-
cess.
ORCHESTRAS USING "BOHEMIA"
Art Hickman, who conducts the famous or-
chestra in the St. Francis Hotel, San Francisco,
Cal., and whose artists are also on the Columbia
Graphophone Co.'s recording staff, is at present
featuring "Bohemia," a one-step, as is Chas.
Sieger's orchestra at the Palace Theatre in the
same city. "Bohemia" is published by the Bos-
ton Music Co.

"THE MAGIC MELODY" REVISED
Leo Feist, Inc., is carrying full-page adver-
tisements in the May and June issues of the
Ladies' Home Journal. In the May issue the
songs featured are "Mystery" and "One Lov-
ing Caress." Both numbers are having suc-
cess with the orchestras and on the vaudeville
stage. The June issue features "Oh!"' and
"Mother's Hands." "Mother's Hands," by the
way, is by Grant Clarke and Milton Ager, the
latter the writer of the musical numbers in
"What's in a Name," now playing New York.
In addition to the above advertisements the
Feist Co. is also carrying publicity in the Sat-
urday Evening Post and Collier's Weekly dur-
ing the month of May. The great success,
"Peggy," is also featured in some of these ad-
vertisements and, as usual, all the active num-
bers in the Feist catalog are mentioned. It
might be noted that the Feist house continues
in all its advertisements to announce the fact
that the numbers can be obtained in both player
roll and record form, in addition to being had
at every sheet music counter.
The advertisements as outlined above will be
read, it is estimated, by over tifteen million peo-
ple. It is one of the largest campaigns ever
inaugurated and should add considerably to the
sales of the numbers featured, although all of
them are already admitted successes.
