able success in featuring what are termed popu-
lar numbers, a class of music that many English
firms have failed to put across in the past. Dur-
ing the past few years Mr. Darewske has made
arrangements to act as British agent for a num-
ber of American publishing houses, and much
of the popularity of recent American song num-
bers in England may be ascribed to his work.

McCarthy & Fischer Win First Point in Ac-
tion Against Lou Holtz and Geo. White
Company Takes Out Group Insurance for En-
tire Personnel—Theo. Presser Co., of Phila-
delphia, Makes Similar Move
Justice Hand, of the Supreme Court, handed
clown a decision last week whereby Lou Holtz
and George White, respectively performer and
producer of "The Scandals of 1919," were tem-
porarily enjoined from employing McCarthy &
Fischer's published number, "You Don't Need
the Wine." The firm had previously granted
Flo Ziegfeld the sole production rights to use
it in his current "Follies." Holtz' defense that
IK had been using it in vaudeville prior to his
engagement with the revue was of no avail in
staying the Court's decision.
The argument to affirm the permanency of the
injunction is scheduled for next October, when
the matter may be "dead" as far as both pro-
ducers are concerned.
G. Schirmer, Inc., New York, prominent music
publishers, have just arranged with the Travel-
ers' Insurance Co. for the insurance of their
employes on the group plan, livery person who
had been employed by the company for six
months on July 1 was covered with a policy for
$500. Those in the company's service for over
two years received a policy for $600, with an
annual increase of $100 for each two years' serv-
ice until a maximum of $1,000 is reached. The
Tbeodore Presser Co., of Philadelphia, also cov-
ered their employes under the group insurance
plan recently.
