A NEW CHAMBERLIN NUMBER
Golden Songs From the Golden West
Measures Up to Standard of Other Songs Which
Have Found Favor on Lyceum Circuits
CHICAGO, October 27.—The high musical and
literary merit of many of the songs produced
by Mrs. Annabelle Chamberlin Held has fitted
them particularly for Chautauqua and Lyceum
production. Some quiet, exploitive work done by
Mrs. Held has secured pledges from many well-
known singers to use certain of her numbers.
The Billboard, whose Lyceum Bureau is quite
famous, recently printed a long story on Mrs.
Held and paid a particular tribute to her work,
especially that which is particularly adapted for
concert use.
Her latest number, "There Blooms a Rose,"
is an exquisite thing and, by the way, is the first
bearing the name of Annabelle Chamberlin, her
work hitherto having been published under the
name of Bob Chamberlin, the pet name by which
she was known in her childhood home in Michi-
gan. "There Blooms a Rose" is a heart classic
and has been furnished with violin and cello
obbligatos. It is understood that it will be fea-
tured by several well-known artists. In the mean-
time, the wide scope of Mrs. Held's talents is
shown by the fact that her more popular num-
bers are making a notable success. "China Lily,"
which has all the earmarks of a production num-
ber, is something very like a hit and is realiz-
ing goodly sales, both East and West. Mrs.
Held publishes under the name of Bob Chamber-
lin and her offices are at 312 S. Dearborn street,
Chicago.

A FEATURE OF THE "FOLLIES"
BERNHARDT WITH CHURCH & CO.
"Tulip Time" One of the Leading Song Numbers
of the Popular Ziegfeld Show
Harry Bernhardt, who for the past several
years has been city salesman for the A. J. Stasny

that organization and has joined the sales staff
of C. C. Church & Co., Hartford, Conn. Mr.
Bernhardt will be located in the Metropolitan
district and will make his headquarters at the
C. C. Church & Co.'s professional studios, 155
West Forty-Eighth street, this city.
Probably one of the biggest hits of the season,
and certainly one of the numbers that dominates
in the "Ziegfeld Follies of 1919," is "Tulip Time,"
a number with lyrics by Gene Buck and music
"TLJLJR
"TIME1
Irving Berlin, Inc., have placed the number,
"You'd Be Surprised" in their production catalog.
The song, although only recently issued, has
created for itself so much favor that it is thought
that it will be one of ilie big hits of the season.
HARRIS ISSUING "IN MIZZOURA'
Chas. K. Harris is publishing a song in con-
junction with the Paramount Artcraft feature
film, "In Mizzoura," in which Robert Warwick is
starring. The song carries the same title as that
of the production and is being published by ex-
clusive permission of the producers of the pic-
ture, and they intend to co-operate in every way
in making the song a success by giving it pub-
licity wherever the picture is exhibited. The
number is the work of Carey Morgan, Abel Green
and Lew Porter.

Leo Feist, Inc., owing to the strike of the New
York printers, which has affected all music pub-
lishers, as well as the various publications in the
metropolitan district, are issuing their songs tem-
porarily with a one color title page. In a notice
recently sent to the trade by the firm they have
asked the kind indulgence of the dealers until
conditions again become normal. They feel that
this move on their part is much better for the
publishers, dealer and public for the time being,
rather than to allow the numbers to be out of
print for a number of weeks.
SONGSTERS OPEN STUDIO
Larry Briers, pianist of the Cafe de Paris, and
Lee M. Walker, who has been associated with
the Henry Burr Pub. Co., as lyricist, have opened
up a studio for the purpose of publishing music.
They will have associated with them Byron Gay,
composer of "The Vamp" and "Sand Dunes."
They announce the following numbers in opening
up their catalog: "Nothing Counts but You,"
"I'm Homesick for You," "Thoughts of You"
and "My Lovin' Eskimo."
The entire business and professional staff of Jos.
W. Stern & Co.seem to be bubbling over with enthusi-
asm regarding the two new songs by S. R. Henry
and his collaborators, "Now I Know" and "Good
Night, Dearie." Sig Bosley, manager of the Chicago
office of the above company, recently wrote to the
author, "I want to congratulate you upon these
numbers. They are the best that I have heard in
years and I am simply wild about them and their
possibilities." The sales force, including Bernard
Prager, Wm. Phillips, Chas. Lang, Arthur A. Busch
and Dave Miller, announce that they expect to break
all previous records in music sales on these songs.
Russell O. Weiss, advertising manager of the
Sam Fox Pub. Co., left Cleveland on Saturday
night of last week on a trade trip, visiting the
dealers of Middle and Northwest cities. Mr.
Weiss will be away from his headquarters for a
period of several months.

While Sam Fox, of the Sam Fox Pub. Co., has
primarily been spending his time on the Pacific
Coast in an endeavor to get a much-needed rest,
caused by his strenuous activities of the past sea-
son, he has found time to cover some of the
larger buyers of music in that territory, with most
favorable results as far as the Fox catalog is
concerned. He has booked some of the largest
orders ever taken by his concern in the cities of
Los Angeles and San Francisco, and this to-
gether with the usual rush of orders coming from
elsewhere into the shipping department of the
Fox concern, has placed their shipping depart-
ment four days behind in filling orders.
