THE WITMARK PRODUCTION LIST
Catalog of M. Witmark & So~s Contains Host
of Numbers From Many of the Leading Musi
cal Comedy Successes of the Season-Geo·r ge
M. Cohan, Victor Herbert, W . R. Anderson, A.
Baldwin Sloane and Alexander Johnstone
Among the Composers Represented
The past season has been a successful one
for musical productions and the song numbers
of most of these shows have invariably had
good sales; that is to say, most of the shows
contributed one or more successful songs to the
list of the season's hits.
M. Witmark & Sons, who each season publish
the music for a large numb er of musical pro
. ductions, have had their share of successfu l ones
thi s year. At the present tim e M. vVitmark &
Sons publish the music o f no less than three
musical product ions playing in N ew York to
crowded houses. The first of these is "The
Velvet Lady," the Klaw & Erlanger production,
which has had a mos't successful run at the
Amsterdam Theatre. The late Henry Blossom
wrote bo th the book and the lyri cs and the music
was contributed by Victor Herb ert. Probably
none of Victor Herbert's musical productions in
recent years has attained the success that has
been achieved by "The Velve t Lady." Among
the song successes of the show are "Life and
Lo ve," "Fa ir H oneymoo n," "Ther e'·s Nothing
1'0·0 Fine for the Finest," "Spooky Ookum" and
"I've Danced to Beat the Band."
Another success is "The Royal Vagabond,"
playing at the Cohan & Harris Theatr e. The
music of this show is by Dr. A nselm Goe tzl,
with additional numbers by George M. Cohan.
Chief among the big selling numbers of this
production are "When the Cherry Blossoms
Fall" (Love Is L ove), "Democracy," "Just for
You Alone" and "Love I s Mine." The George
M. Co han numbers include "In a Kingdom of
Our Own, " " Good-by, Bargravia" and " H ere
Come the So ldie rs."
Other l11us:cal com edy succe sses for which
V.'itmark & Sons publish the music include
"Take It From Me," by Will B. Johnstone and
Will R. Ande rs on. The book of this productiori is
considered one of the best in many seaso ns, and
the musical successes from the pen of W. R.
A nderson include "The Call of the Cozy Little
Home," "Take It From Me," "The Tanglefoot,"
"Camouflage," ~'Good , Bad , Beautiful Broadway"
and "To Have a nd to Hold." The GreenFich
Village "Fo llies," by Philip Bartholomae and J.
Murray Anderson, with music by A. Baldwin

Among the successful road productions of
the past season for which :M . Witmark & Sons
publish the mu sic must be mentioned "Go ing

a most successfu l s eas·o n. "Go.in g Gp" indeed
ha s been especially successful. There are companies playing it in the 'Cnite-d States and
four comlfa nies are presenting it in Europe,

A recent announcement by M. vVitmark &

tract with Dr. Anselm Goetzl to act as his ex
clusive publishers. In addition they have con
tracted for ·th e publication of the songs by Sig
mund Romberg, composer of "May ti me" and
"The Blue Paradise." Others und er contract to
the above house are Sandor H armat i and Max
Steiner, both of whom are composers of oper
atic scores. Rennold Wolf, author of "The Rain
bow Girl," who also ha s a contract wi th Witmark,
is writin g:.. severa l pieces which are to be an
r;ounced at an early date. Will B. J ohnstone
and Will R. Anderson, writers of "Take It From
Me," have a new musical play scheduled for
fall production called "Diri." A long li st of
other new mllsical productions now in the mak
ing is keeping the finn of M. Witmark & Son s
busy these days.
