CENTURY CO. PUBLICITY CAMPAIGN
Three Months' Campaign Will Help Popularize
"Century Certified Music"
Meet Competition
BY CARRYING BEST IN MERCHANDISE
AND PLENTY OF IT!
BY SERVING YOUR CUSTOMERS' BEST
INTERESTS!
BY BEING COURTEOUS TO YOUR
TRADE!
By applying these three rules in your busi-
ness you need have no fear of your competitor.
Serve your Customers' BEST interests
by introducing the Nationally Advertised
"CENTURY" Certified Edition. Besides giv-
ing the best you are saving them money, thus
establishing a lasting confidence in your trade
methods and bringing the customers back
again and again.
Courteous treatment is one of the greatest
essentials in building up a successful business.
All three go hand in hand.
During February, March and April the Cen-
tury Music Co. will run advertisements in the
Ladies' Home Journal, Pictorial Review and the
Delineator, giving publicity to "Century Cer-
tified Music." It is estimated that over four
million people will read the announcements.
The above firm is sending out letters to the
trade asking them to co-operate, and as many
dealers have been doing this in the past cam-
paigns it is thought the list of those taking ad-
vantage of this free publicity will be quite large.
For local papers the Century Music Co. fur-
nishes cuts and it also has a window service
department that furnishes the material and sug-
gestions for window displays. Thus the dealers
can become associated with the campaign with
the use of a small amount of energy.

The demand for sheet music is greater than the
supply, since music from Great Britain is slow
arriving, and there has "been some difficulty
relative to sheet music from the United States,
the copyrights not having been properly pro-
tected in some cases here, to the detriment of
American interests. The shortage of musical
instrument accessories seems to be the most
serious; it is practically impossible to procure

Prior to the war Germany supplied quite a
large proportion of the musical instruments and
accessories on sale here, especially such instru-
ments as mouth organs, accordions, and violins,

the beginning of the war Japan made a strong

TWO NEW NUMBERS BY ROBERTS
A HANDSOME WINDOW DISPLAY
"After All" and "You Don't Know" are two
numbers published by Jerome H. Remick & Co.,
of which Lee Roberts is the composer. Accord-
ing to the publishers both of the songs are as-
sured successes and it is felt they will rival in
popularity Mr. Roberts' well-known "Smiles,"
which without doubt is one of the biggest hits
in many seasons, a number that practically
everyone knows and sings, but which is still
having a heavy sale.
McKINLEY NUMBERS IN CONCERT
John O'Malley, the famous Irish tenor, is just
finishing a vaudeville tour and is now preparing
concert engagements, which will occupy his
time for the next several months. Among other
songs he is featuring are the high-class McKin-
ley Music Co. numbers, "Liberty, Ring On" and
"Your Voice Came Back to Me."
TO REPRESENT FOUR CATALOGS
Harry Newman, one of the best-known sales-
men in the music publishing field, has severed
his connection with Harry Von Tilzer and will
go on the road with the catalogs of four pub-
lishers.

This is the busy week for Joe Keit, sales man-
ager of Jerome H. Remick & Co., who is mak-
ing flying trips to the Remick branches in Phila-
delphia, Baltimore, Washington, Pittsburgh and
Cleveland. Mr. Keit, by the way, is an expert
accountant and will audit the books at each of
the stores located in the above cities. This to-
gether with the fact that the Remick catalog
has three of the biggest hits in the history of
the house, which also serves to keep his time
occupied, makes it some season for Joe.
FEIST SONG PLEASES PRESIDENT
When President Wilson left the United States
on December 11 on the U. S. S. "George Wash-
ington" he did not know that one of the sur-
prises on the trip would be a musical show given
by the sailors aboard the vessel. The show was
produced under the name "Musical Gambol" and
was in the.nature of a musical farce on "Uncle
Tom's Cabin" with a good program of songs
interspersed. The feature song of the program
proved to be one that was most appropriate
for the occasion, "The Navy Took Them Over
and the Navy Will Bring Them Back." The
song is published by Leo Feist, Inc., and is prov-
ing a tremendous seller.
