an unusually active demand for the S. S. Stew-
art professional twisted silk rough finished banjo

string.
This same quality of string is also
manufactured as a violin "E" string, and with
the advent of summer "weather there is always
a very active call for silk violin strings, owing
to the fact that they are ideally adapted for
hot weather use.

The S. S. Stewart professional twisted silk
banjo string is an imported product, and
Buegeleisen & Jacobson have advised their
dealers to anticipate their requirements for these
strings as much as possible, as the supply is
very limited. The five-string banjo is steadily
gaining, in popularity, and the dealers report an
increased demand for this instrument, with a
corresponding gain in volume of the banjo
string business.
The quality of the S. S. Stewart silk twisted
banjo string is emphasized by the fact that one
of America's leading banjoists recently visited
the Buegeleisen & Jacobson warerooms in order
to ascertain where he could secure an adequate
supply of these strings for the members of his
orchestra. He stated that these are the only
strings he is using, and that he would gladly
pay $25 a bundle if it was necessary in order
to procure these strings.
He was furnished
with a list of "dealers who handle this product,
and he expressed his intention of getting his
orchestra well supplied while on tour throughout
the country.
VIOLIN WITH TRUMPET ATTACHMENT
A violin was invented in England which had
a trumpet attachment made of aluminum. The
strings were vibrated by means of a diaphragm
which was connected with the trumpet.

BOLIVAR ON "THE MANDOLIN"
The mandoleen are a strainge insturment of
pleshure an' torclmre that are swete to sum
folks an' lyke a catt on a back fense to othirs.

use fer mandoleens. One nite we herd sum
mandoleen musick under my sister's window.
"Hod durn it!" says mi father. "Thare's sum
of them blamed mandoleens an' they're a'playin'
'I'arsyfall.' "
"Goodness me, Hennery!" says mi mother.
"You're very devoid when it cums to braynes.
'Parsyfall' ain't played on mandoleens. It's
played on base drums an' symbels."
Mi sister gott upp an' dressed. "It must be
George dere," she says to mi mother.
My sister went to her window. "Cum in,
boys!" she called out.
When she let 'em inside she found they was
three cullard gentlemen. ' She run up stares
quick.
"Father," she says, "they're negrows. Hirry
down an' intertain 'em."
"Huh!" says mi father, "whot do you take
me fer—a furst of August reception committee
of one? I will, lyke Helena, Montana."
Finly mi mother went down and give each
man a quarter. "Go," she says, "an' don't play
no moar under our window, fer I have a pore
week-minded husband up stares."
Mi father herd her, but he never got soar. As
the negrows left he hollered out the window:
"Gud bye, George, dere!"
