STANDARDIZE THE NATIONAL ANTHEM
Official Version of "The Star Spangled Ban-
ner" Heard for the First Time in Public on
December 5—Adopted by the Government
At the request of the Government a commit-
tee, consisting of Walter Damrosch, Will Ear-
hardt, O. G. Sonneck, John Philip Sousa and
Arnold J. Gantvoort, began work last August
to prepare a version of the national anthem that
could be used by the army, the navy, and by the
public generally.
There were so many versions of the words and
music extant that the Government decided to
adopt one that would serve universally. The
official version is now ready and has been har-
monized by Mr. Damrosch at the request of
the committee and copies are now be"ing dis-
tributed.
At a concert to be given in honor of Belgium
by the Oratorio Society of New York, on Wed-
nesday evening, December 5, with Walter Dam-
rosch conducting, the official standardized ver-
sion will be given its first public performance by
the chorus of the society assisted by the New
York Symphony Society.
The standardized version, which is said to
be a great improvement over the one usually
heard of the national anthem, will be adopted
not only in the army and navy, but by all
schools, clubs and singing societies.

Noted Tenor Now Singing "Send Me Away

New Songs Published by Al. Piantadosi & Co.
Not Satisfied with the national'publicity they
have received for their song, "Send Me Away
With a "Smile," the Al Piantadosi Co., Inc., have
succeeded in getting John McCormack to sing
this number at his concerts. He also recently
recorded the song for the Victor Talking Ma-
chine Co. To follow up the success they have
had with "Send Me Away With a Smile" and
"If You Had All the World and Its Gold," a
very popular ballad, they recently published a
new song of the novelty order called "The
Wild, Wild Women." - This song is the hit of
"Doing Our Bit" at the Winter Garden, New
York, where it is sung by the inimitable Henry
Lewis. It is also the featured song of the Dil-
lingham-Ziegfeld Revue, "Miss 1917," now play-
ing at the Century Theatre. The Al Piantadosi
Co. has had an excellent year and if this, their
first season in business, is any criterion of the
ability of the firm to make good, their future
is beyond dispute.

songs of the type that are to be classified as
standards of a distinctly high type.

series is the great success, "There's a Long,

ADD NEW PRODUCTION NUMBERS
T. B. Harms & Francis, Day & Hunter Now
Publishers for Several Late Hits
Following up their life-long policy of giving
the public a large number of successful operatic
hits each year, T. B. Harms & Francis, Day &
Hunter have recently added the music of sev-
eral new musical shows to their catalog in ad-
dition to the long list they have already pub-
lished this year. Among the recent shows for
which they have already published the scores
and which from all reports are having good suc-
cesses are ''Odds and Ends," "Flo-Flo," Silvio
Hein's latest production, and '"Her Regiment,"
the latter show having a musical score by Vic-
tor Herbert.
Among the numerous other shows for which
the T. B. Harms Co. publish the music are the
successes, "Miss 1917," "Reviera Girl," "Leave
it to Jane," "Oh Roy," and "Have a Heart."
This firm has been eminently successful with
their musical shows, a number of them having
several road companies, all of which are report-
ing fine business which of course means, among
other things, the music is very popular and
is having good- sales in every section of the
country at the present time.
