BENCH AND PEDAL ATTACHMENT
Patented by Beulah Mayher, of Glenwood,
Ark.—Its Various Features Described
WASHINGTON, D. C, September 25.—Beulah
Mayher, of Glenwood, Ark., has just been
granted Patent No. 1,198,648 for an Adjustable
Bench and Pedal Attachment for Pianos.
The object of the invention is to provide a
piano bench that is but little different in ap-
pearance from the conventional piano bench,
but embodying adjustment features whereby the
seat may be quickly raised or lowered to any
desired position, so that a child may be in
proper position before the instrument.
The device also embodies an adjustable pedal
attachment which may be withdrawn from be-
neath the bench, with which it is slidably en-
gaged, so that the pedal depressors will con-
tact with the pedals of a piano. With this
device a child may sit at a piano as comfortably
as a person of mature years, thereby lessen-
ing the strain put upon children by requiring
long practice in a decidedly uncomfortable
position.
WEATHER AND THE DRYKILN
Perhaps this year, more than in normal years,
drykiln operators have had brought home to
them a realization of the fact that the weather
plays an important part in drykiln operations.
When the air is moist as well as warm it gen-
erally requires more temperature to do satis-
factory kiln-drying than when the moisture con-
tent in the air is very low. In the course of
time probably those who compile operating
data for drykilns will include temperature and
humidity readings of the outside air along with
the temperature and draft requirements in the
kiln itself, since the one has quite an effect
upon the other.
