McCormick, North Tonawanda, N. Y., was last
week granted Patent No. 1,196,794 for a music
roll, which he has assigned to the R. Wurlitzer
Manufapturing Co., same place.
This invention relates to the music rolls of
automatic musical instruments, and more par-
ticularly to a roll in which the spool is remov-
able from the roll, so that the same spool
may be used for different rolls, thus saving
the cost of a separate spool for each roll.
The object of the invention is the provision
of a simple and inexpensive music roll of this
kind which permits the ready transfer of the
spool from one roll to another and in which
the flanges are adjustable to compensate for
variations in the width of the music sheet due
to atmospheric or climatic influences.

Autopiano Co., of New York.
This device relates to a speed controlling de- staff of recording pianists. Mr. Ilgenfritz, who
vice, particularly adapted for controlling the is a composer of considerable note, has made a
speed of a note sheet in an automatic musical deep study of the art of recording hand-played
instrument.
With this object in view, one feature of the
invention relates to the provision of a sheet-
engaging member adapted to co-operate with
the sheet winding upon the music roll, the de-
crease in size thereof- permitting the speed-
adjusting devices to become operative.
A second feature of the invention relates to
the provision of an automatically adjustable
connection between the sheet-engaging mem-
ber and the speed-adjusting device, whereby
