can for Lyrics for "Wake Up, America"
New Operetta at the Cort Theatre Will Intro-
duce a New Prima Donna
Following the recent closing of the lengthy
lyric writing contest recently carried on by the
New York American in connection with the
music of the big Feist preparedness song,
"Wake Up, America," it was announced -on
Sunday that the prize of $25 was awarded to
Ted Smith, of 426 Passaic avenue, Passaic, N.
J. The decision was made by Jack Glogau and
George J. Graff, Jr., composer and author of the
song.

Earl Carroll Carries Out a New Idea in the
Music for "Canary Cottage"
Earl Carroll, who some time ago made the
profession sit up by using a battery of banjos
and saxophones for some brand new ragtime
effects, has added to his record by introducing
into the new Morosco comedy, "Canary Cot-
tage," some syncopated music for the harp, thus
putting that ancient and honorable instrument
at the service of the ragtime artist.
The piece bears the title "The Syncopated
Irish Harp," and is published by Leo Feist, Inc.
MACFARLANE USING FEIST SONGS
George MacFarlane, who starts a vaudeville
tour over the Orpheum Time, opening in Salt
Lake City, May 21, is using a number of the
Feist songs, including "My Old Rose," "Good
Night Dinnie and God Bless You," "What an
Irishman Means by Machree," "Love, Here Is
My Heart" and "Moonshine Sally."
