REVIEW
THAT the coming Friars Frolic should afford
song writers an unusual opportunity for putting
over their latest numbers under most acceptable
conditions.
THAT Rudolph E. Schirmer, head of the music
publishing house of G. Schirmer, was married
last week to Miss Ann Swinburne, a prominent
concert singer.
THAT the wave of higher prices has at last
reached the members of the trade who like to
have their pictures in the papers. On April 1
the price of cuts was practically doubled.
THAT the song with the most brilliant or ex-
pensive title page is not necessarily the greatest
hit. Watch and see.
THAT the Associated Song Writers of America
have proven that the organization is alive by a
most elaborate and enjoyable dinner held last
week.
THAT a correspondent wants to know just why
the word "blues" is such a popular part of a
number of instrumental pieces such as "The
Memphis Blues," the "Kansas City Blues," etc.
It is certainly not indicative of the character of
the melody.

Great Success Expected for "Mother Mavour-
neen," a Clever Number by George Graff, Jr.,
and George H. Gartlan.
Leo Feist, Inc., has just accepted for publica-
tion a brand new Irish song entitled "Mother
Mavourneen," which, according to those respon-
sible for the selection of the number, is destined
to be one of the greatest songs of its kind ever
written. "Mother Mavourneen" is by George
Graff, Jr., with music by George H. Gartlan, and
is unusual both in quality of the music and the
melody. Mr. Graff, by the way, was responsible
for the lyrics of "Wake Up, America." one of the
recent Feist successes.

its new quarters at 222 West Forty-sixth street on

of the business. Ed. Abies, Murray Blum and Joe

GORDON PUBLISHES WAR=S0NG
With a brilliant red, white, and blue patriotic
cover and a refrain that catches the ear, the new
war-song "We's All for Uncle Sam," has been pub-
lished by Hamilton S. Gordon. A big window
sign, patterned after the cover, is going out to
dealers. Nobody short of a blind man can pass it
without a couple of looks. The song is by James
Wells and Walter J. Pond.
The Concordia Music House Co., of St. Louis,
Mo., has recently added H. S. McGuire to its
sales staff.

REMICK STAR FOLIO, NO. 16
'NAT'AN" NOW AT POPULAR PRICES
Easter Music Now Receiving the Attention of
the Majority of Publishers—Interesting Issue
of the Musician—What Ditson Co., White-
Smith Co., and Thompson & Co. Are Offering
One of the recent Remick & Co. publications
of unusual value and in-
terest is the Star Dance
Folio No. 16, which con-
tains a number of the lat-
est Remick successes ex-
pertly arranged for fox-
trots, one-steps, waltzes
and rags. The new vol-
ume is a welcome addi-
tion to the series of Star
folios and is already in
considerable demand with the trade.
The Kendis Music Publishing Co., New York,
has just announced a change in its schedule of
prices for "Nat'an," its popular comedy song,
which will enable retailers to sell this selection
at 10 cents a copy. The company states that the
demand for this number has so far exceeded ex-
pectations that the increased quantity orders
enable it to make this price reduction.
"Nat'an" is being sung by many of the leading
vaudeville artists, including Belle Baker, Ruth
Roye, Sophie Tucker, Jimmie Hussey, Van and
Schenk, and by many other well-known per-
formers who are enthusiastic regarding its orig-
inality and "catchiness."
BOSTON, MASS., March 24.—The local music
trade is finding business reasonably good about
this time, much of it, as might be expected, being
in Easter music on which choirs and individual
singers now are busy. A caller in town yester-
day was Frederick Harris, the music publisher
of London, England, and Toronto, Canada, who
spent a pleasant period with several of the local
music dealers. George W. Furness, of the Dit-
son traveling staff, is in the West and reports

Proprietors—Bar Singing of Number
One of the funniest stories that has come out
of "Tin Pan Alley" for some time past is
to the effect that a number of cabaret managers
have put the ban on the singing of Piantadosi's
new number, "Your Wife," owing to the senti-
ments conveyed in the lyrics. It is said that the
effect of the song on the married man out on a
quiet little tour with a "chicken," is to make him
leave at once for his own fireside; a bad move
for the bar receipts.

SHONINGER PIANOS
G. Schirmer, of New York, announces that
Nicholas DeVore, who has been associated with
the orchestral department, is not longer with
that firm.
Edward I. Boyle, the blind baritone, of Wo-'-.es-
ter, Mass., who is widely known in that section,
has written a new comic song, "In the Five and
Ten Cent Store." The song is said to be a hit.
When the jitneys first became numerous in
