The Successful Work of C. D. Potter in This

It is just about ten years since C. D. Potter saw
the demand for piano and player hardware of the
quality he believed would be esteemed by the trade,
and he went at once into the manufacture of these
commodities. His success, as with all new en-
deavors, was slow at the start, but as the years
went by the business grew and during the past

It is a well-known fact that although bass strings
are comparatively a small expense in the make-
up of a piano, they are of large consequence when
it is desired to obtain a deep, rich and resonant tone
in t'je bass section of the instrument. To produce
the proper depth of tone it is necessary to manu-
facture bass strings by covering or wrapping the
steel string with a metal of suitable ductility made
especially for this purpose. It has been due to the
care in the selection of wire and in the winding
that the Reinwarth strings have been so successful
since their inception in 1858.
They are manufactured from the genuine Felton
& Guilleaume Blue Label steel and wound with
Lake Superior copper wire. Mr. Koch employs a
force of experts, each man having been trained by
him, and no strings leave the factory without first
having passed before his critical eye. It has been
his pride to maintain the quality of the Reinwarth
Business indications from Leominster, Mass., in-
dicate that the huge plant of the Richardson Piano
Case Co. is working on an unusual schedule of
activity, it being apparent that the piano manufac-
turers feel that the spring business will be of ex-
cellent volume. It is also a striking testimonial to the
esteem in which the products of this house are
regarded by the trade. The Richardson Co. gives
unusual supervision throughout all details of case
making in order that everything may be as perfect
as is possible to secure through the use of modern
machinery by skilled workmen. Not only does
the company work hand in hand with the piano
manufacturer, but it will go a step further and
even create case designs. Its large experience in
this field enables a close co-operation that is ex-
ceedingly valuable.

The Beacon Piano Co. filed a certificate of in-
corporation on Saturday last with the Secretary of
State at Albany for the purpose of conducting a
business in musical instruments, piano hardware
and player-pianos. Capital, $5,000. Incorporators:

a general line of. piano and player hardware, the
Potter Co. owns several patents relating to im-
provements in hardware for player-pianos.
The photograph accompanying this article shows
only the front of the factory building devoted to
the manufacture of these goods and which is lo-
cated in the progressive city of Stamford, Conn.
The extreme length o.f the factory building is nearly
200 feet. Machinery equipment is of the latest de-
sign.
