EFFECTIVE MARCHING MUSIC.
In France all the military marches are so ar
ranged that the band and the drum and bugle
corps supplement each other throughout. Some-
times the band accompanies a stirring theme blown
on the bugles; sometimes the band has the theme
and the bugles are obligato. The contrapuntal
effects are often very ingenious and effective, and
it is the most inspiring martial music imaginable.
