WAR AFFECTSJVUJSIC TEACHERS.
Warned of Price Changes in Imported Goods—
No Discount on Imported Music, Is Notice of
One House, Owing to Its Inability to Secure
Fresh Stocks from Abroad During War.
The war has begun to hit even the music teachers
of this city, who usually have been able to get a
discount from the firms which supply music pub-
lished abroad. One large music publishing house
has sent the following notification to its patrons as
a result of conditions:
"On account of the difficulty of importation all
foreign sheet music and books that are marked
net will until further notice be subject to no dis-
count whatever. All other foreign music not
marked net, prices and discounts will likewise be
subject to changes. Kindly take note of above,
so as to avoid mistakes in buying or selling to your
pupils."

THAT the future activities of the newly formed
Sheet Music Dealers' Association of America will
bear careful watching by all branches of the
trade.
THAT a number of the publishers have shown
the proper spirit by co-operating with the dealers
in an attempt to eliminate certain of the announced
and recognized evils of the trade.

THE MOST SUNG SONGS
IN AMERICA
And that means the World !
THAT the over-abundance of new issues and
too liberal discounts are both matters that are
worthy of more than passing attention.
THAT with a president from Boston, vice-presi
dent from Denver and secretary-treasurer from
Los Angeles, the dealers do not appear to have
neglected any section of the country in their se-
lection of officers.
THAT with the war only a month old, there has
arisen at least one charge fo plagarism in connec-
tion with the writing of a semi-war song.
THAT a good rule for the song writer would
appear to be, "Never trust your friend with your
ideas."
THAT the United Booking Offices, working in
harmony with the Music Publishers' Board of
Trade, has announced that acts being paid for
using songs will not be booked.
THAT unless the U. B. O. boosts salaries, there
will be a dropping off in performers' incomes.
THAT "The Aba Daba Honeymoon" (Feist)
is being used in the majority of the leading bur-
lesque shows of the circuits this season, which in-
dicates some hard work on the part of the pro-
fessional department.
THAT Harry Piano has joined the Feist staff
as a writer and is preparing several numbers to
be issued under the Feist imprint.

"THE CALL O F J H E NORTH"

Recent Addition to the Popular Catalog of M.
Witmark & Sons.
"The Call of the North" (The Girl Who Waits
for Me) is the title of a new and highly attractive
novelty song bearing the imprint of M. Witmark
& Sons. "The Call of the North" is the joint
work of Charles Patrick and Milton E. Schwars-
wald, two writers of merit whose style is decidedly
out of the common, and who, if they continue to
write in this popular vein, will add to their laurels
in the future. "The Call of the North" is very
young at present, but already it is making rapid
strides toward success. From the start many
prominent vocalists elected to warble it around
town and its appealing melody may be heard at
any of the near-by summer resorts.

It's what is inside of the Sterling that has made its repu-
tation.
Every detail of its construction receives thorough
attention from expert workmen—every material used in its
construction is the best—absolutely. That means a piano
of permanent excellence in every particular in which a
piano should excel. The dealer sees the connection between
these facts and the universal popularity of the Sterling.
