Prominent Composer Has Already Taken Out | j
First Papers—Looks for European Triumph s
for "The Pink Lady."

Ivan Caryll, composer of "The Pink Lady," has
announced his intention of becoming an American
citizen, and has to that effect already taken out his
first papers. Regarding "The Pink Lady" Mr.
Caryll is reported to have said: "The play is
going to be produced this season not only in
London but in Paris, Berlin and Vienna. I think
this is really the first instance where a musical
comedy produced in America has been bought for
France, Germany, Austria and Australia, as well
as England. I find new ideas over here, which I
seemed unable to do in London. After living there
so long I got into a groove. I have studied the
public here. The general musical taste is excep-
tionally good. 'The Pink Lady' is bound to take
in London."

Everywhere Victor Herbert's latest light opera,
"The Enchantress," plays, it attracts crowded
houses and receives warm welcome. Last week
one of Brooklyn's typical music-loving audiences
assembled in the Montauk Theatre nightly. The
advance bookings for every performance were ex-
ceptionally heavy, while the S. R. O. sign held a
conspicuous position in the lobby. The gems of
the opera, including "To the Land of My Own Ro-
mance," "Art Is Calling for Me," "I Want to Be a
Prima Donna," "Come, Little Fishes (the goldfish
song), "All Your Own Am I" (champagne song)
and "The Dreaming Princess" (madrigal), re-
ceived their full meed of praise from both press and
public.
The other musical numbers in "The Enchantress"
that have won favor are "Come to Sunny Spain,"
"If You Can't Be as Happy as You'd Like to Be,
Be Just as Happy as You Can," "Rose, Lucky
Rose," "They All Look When They're Far Away,"
"I've Been Looking for a Perfect Man," "That
Naughty Little Song" and "When the Right Man
Sings Tra La La." M. Witmark & Sons publish
the music, including a set of waltzes, selection and
score.
