The year at the Oliver Ditson Co.'s Boston es-
tablishment has been a phenomenal one, and for
•some of the company's late offerings there has been
u heavy demand. The holiday trade in all lines
was most satisfactory. One of the biggest things
the house has put out has been the new series of
the Musicians Library, "One Hundred Folk Songs
of All Nations," edited by Granville Bantock. The
volume comes bound in both cloth and paper, and
' it is destined to play an important part in familiar-
izing the music public with the too little known
songs of other lands. In this volume the editor
has drawn from the treasures found among Euro-
pean, Asiatic, African and American races, making
a most valuable and unique collection, which he
has edited with much skill. The accompaniments
are most effective and, in addition to the original
language or dialect, the editor has provided an ex-
cellent English translation. There is a fine like-
ness of the editor, Mr. Bantock, and a series of
notes covering more than twenty pages gives one
quite a comprehensive idea of the biography of the
composers. There also are a number of pages of
bibliography.
Several good volumes now on the press, which
should be out during January, are "French Diction
for Singers and Speakers," by William Harkness
