A well known dramatic school instructor de-
clared the other day that he considered the Proctor
Stock Companies, located at the Fifth Avenue and
One Hundred and Twenty-fifth Street Theaters, a
most valuable adjunct to the dramatic schools.
"Not alone," said he, "is it possible to send the
pupils to witness revivals of the most popular plays
of the past five years and careful productions of
the standard comedies, but the permanency of the
stock companies enables the dramatic aspirant to
closely observe the varying methods used by the
same actor in treating his parts. At the theaters
where a single production runs for several weeks,
to be followed by an entirely new company, it is
not possible to arrive at any satisfactory under-
standing of the actor's versatility, without the aid
of a special lecture, but at the Proctor theaters one
may observe week by week the tricks of the trade
by which versatility is gained."

ist appears at Proctor's Fifth Avenue Theater, her
repertoire including Theo. F. Morse's "Blue Bell,"
"Come Down from the Big Fig Tree" and "Isn't
It Nice to Have Some One to Love."

A novel piece of advertising was that of How-
ley-Dresser's publication, "On a Good Old Trol-
ley Ride," which appeared in the Siegel-C<5oper
ad. early this week, in which they state, "To-mor-
row the Siegel-Cooper store will place on sale the
great New York song craze, "On a Good Old Trol-
ley Ride." To the girl or boy attending public
school anywhere in Greater New York, who will
give the best rendition of this song at Lyric Hall,
Sixth avenue, between 41st and 42d streets, on Sat-
urday, April 9th, between two and six o'clock, The
Howley-Dresser Co. will award prizes as follows:
First, $25.00 in gold; second, $15.00 in gold; third,
$10.00 in gold; fourth, $5.00 in gold. Quality or
range of voice will not influence judges' decision;
