Calvin Whitney, president of the A. B..
Chase Co., states that their business for 1902
will exceed that of the previous year by
twenty-five per cent. The growth of the
business continues to be such that necessar-
ily a greater showing even than this is ex-
pected at the close of the year which has
just opened. Mr. Whitney is quite optimis-
tic about the general business outlook and
sees nothing to prevent a continuance of the
present prosperity now so universal through-
out the country.
A CHRISTMAS EXPERIENCE.
There was such an abnormal demand for
pianos around the close of the holiday sea-
son in Milwaukee, Wis., that the piano deal-
ers had the utmost difficulty in getting pia-
nos to their destination within the promised
time. The regular staff of piano movers
were augmented, and some of them or their
assistants became somewhat exhilarated, not
with joy at the prosperity of the piano deal-
er, but rather through the use of liquor. As
a result several dealers had to step in and
hustle to get pianos to their destination on
Christmas Eve as promised. They got them
there, too.
BIG EMERSON SHIPMENTS.
The Emerson Piano Co. shipped 115 in-
struments during Christmas week. They
have carried over quite a number of unfilled
orders to the new year and are making stren-
uous efforts to catch up with all orders, and
expect to do so with the lull which usually
follows the holiday trade. So far their rep-
resentatives, however, report continued ac-
tivity in business and orders are coming in
to the Emerson Co.. with unfailing regular-
ity.
F. S. Slade, the well-known dealer of Buf-
falo, N. Y., expects to move on Monday
next from 37 Niagara street to new quarters
at 646 Main street. Here he will have much
larger quarters where he will be able to dis-
play to good advantage the magnificent line
of Weber, Shoninger, Henry F. Miller, Es-
tey and other pianos which he handles.
