THE MUSIC TRKDE
WHAT THE "LIVE" MAN EXPERIENCES.
Wednesday the negotiations of the Winter
Piano Co., New York, for a site on which to
erect a new factory were concluded. The
papers will be signed Monday, and then Mr.
Winter will feel at liberty to reveal its exact
location. That the premises secured are on
the Southern Boulevard, in close proximity
to the piano settlement commencing at the
intersection of 134th street, is conceded, but
beyond that information is withheld for rea-
sons, and thereby hangs a tale.
•A few weeks back a deal was on, and had
gone through by verbal agreement, for a
piece of property located elsewhere. The
Review, at the time, gave considerable de-
tail concerning the construction, frontage and
depth of the proposed structure when a ser-
ies of unlooked-for happenings upset these
calculations, and the protocol was declared
null and void. It appears another piano con-
cern had been negotiating for these same lots
at a previous date, and the proceedings had
gone so far that a sketch of the contemplated
factory had been made, to see how it might
look, if finished. The sale, however, never
went through, though the drawing was re-
tained. At this stage matters rested.
Subsequently when the Winter Piano Co.
fancied the location, this embryotic picture
was recalled by the owners, who offered to
procure it for inspection and suggestion. An
architect accordingly waited upon the piano
party of the first part with a request for the
sketch, which was complied with, and then
Mr. Winter suggested a number of changes
he desired, making an engagement with the
architectural sharp for the following day,
when he was to submit an amended drawing
of the factory under discussion.
Much to the surprise of Mr. Winter and
his company colleagues, however, the gentle-
man aforesaid never materialized again; but
the piano firm of the first instance came to
the sudden conclusion they wanted that prop-
erty, wanted it bad, and the best way to get
it was to close the deal at once. And they
did.
Now, there will soon be two nice, new,
large piano factories going up somewhere
in the Bronx, one of which will be the Win-
ter plant and the other one on the ground
which so mysteriously disappeared from un-
der the feet of the senior partner of the Win-
ter Co. and whose identity has escaped the
furtive newsgatherer. On this account the
full particulars of the latter's purchase, which
is ever so much more to his liking, are held
in reserve until the final parchments are
signed, sealed and delivered.
AT H. & S. G. LINDEMAN'S.
Gradually the exterior of the Henry & S.
G. Lindeman plant, Fifth avenue and 140th
street, New York, is shaping up. The latest
improvement is a large wire sign, swung on
the avenue side, over the commodious area-
way, running the full length of the building
and which was enclosed this week with a
high, substantial picket fence. A coat of
paint will complete the job.

EMERSON PROSPECT BOOK.

The "Pocket Prospect Book," which has
been prepared by the Emerson Piano Co., of
Boston, will be found of great interest to
dealers handling the well-known pianos made
by this house. It is substantially bound in
leather and so designed as to enable the piano
man to keep a comprehensive account of his
prospects. The introductory to the book-
let is worth reproducing:

THE AUTOMUSIC PERFORATING CO.
James O'Connor, president of the Auto-
music Perforating Co., with factory at
Bleecker and Carmine streets and offices at
53 Broadway, was at the factory on Thurs-
day when The Review called for news.
"There is nothing special to tell you this
week," said Mr. O'Connor, "except that we
are kept busy right along. Many important
contracts from our regular customers are re-
ceiving attention. In addition, we have re-
cently added several new names to our list
of patrons. Although we have plenty to do
at present, we are always open for new busi-
ness and desire to hear from all who are in-
terested in our specialties."
There have been many visitors recently to
the warerooms of the Henry F. Miller &
Sons Piano Co., Boston, owing to the pres-
ence there of several art designs of the Henry
F. Miller pianos. They are superb creations
and worthily maintain the reputation which
this house hav§ wpn as creators in the realm
