pianos arrived on the 2ydi inst. After hav-
ing made a critical examination of the style
1L 5, mahogany, am tree to state chat this is
niueed an artistic piano, possessing in the
Highest degree nomnty ot tone and elasticity
in action, which places it,.in my estimation,
aoove any piano tnat 1 have yet come in con-
tact with. 1 consider the JJuplex Sounding
Hoard one ot ihe greatest inventions of the
age. While i am greatly in love with the
siyle 115, R is surpassed by the style 120,
winch cannot l;e Lompared with any other
upright piano, m fact it is well named "a
grand piano 111 an upright case." i have
measured the smngs in style 120 and find
the bass strings a.e 5 ft. 1 in. in length be-
tween agratle and pin-aridge, a length ob-
tainable 111 no other upright piano I have ever
seen, and in fact very seldom seen in a baby
grand. Mrs. Murpiiy, who is a graduate of
the New England Conservatory of Music of
jluston, where she has played on hundreds of
high-grade pianos, claims it is without doubt
the sweetest and most beautiful toned piano
she has ever played on. Taking into con-
sideration the tact that 1 am, as you are well
aware, very reticent in praising any piano,
unless well deserving, you ought to consider
this a great compliment for the Mathushek &
Son.
.
Yours truly,
W. H. Murphy.
