NEW GERMAN COPYRIGHT LAW.
One clause in the new German copyright
law gives composers in future the exclusive
right of the performance of their works,
without any special mention to that effect
on the title-page of the music. An excep-
tion is made in favor of choral societies,
which may sing whatever they please with-
out the composer's consent. Barrel-organ-
grinders may still play any thing they please,
but such mechanical instruments as can ren-
der music in the proper time and with dy-
namic light and shade are forbidden the re-
production of copyright compositions.
PROCTOR'S GREAT PROGRAM.
Manager F. F. Proctor announces that his
Fifth Avenue Theater will remain open unin-
terruptedly during the heated term, where he
will present the F. F. Proctor Big Stock Co.,
in comedies, with variety numbers inter-
spersed between acts and before and after
the play. Manager Proctor also has a thea-
ter in Albany and in Montreal, and their
patrons'will be provided with the same style
of amusement throughout the Summer.
With so few dramatic attractions current
there would seem to be an excellent oppor-
tunity for a profitable season of Manager
Proctor's style of amusement. The comedies
are presented by a carefully selected com-
pany, and the interpolation of variety num-
bers makes the entertainment continually di-
versified and interesting.
Save on extremely hot days, the Fifth
Avenue Theater is well filled, and on cool
evenings the attendance overflows the seat-
ing capacity. The theater has all modern
appliances for keeping the temperature as
low as possible.
Proctor's Big Stock Co. is divided into
three sections for the Summer term, thus
supplying each house with a different play
and company each week. Frederic Bond is
general stage director, and appears in some

of the productions. The repertory includes
some of the best comedies known to the dra-
matic stage, and there are many more revi-
vals of celebrated plays still to come.
The idea of introducing variety between
acts is original with Manager Proctor, and
has proven a most popular innovation. The
performances at the Fifth Avenue are con-
tinuous, and include a presentation of the
main comedy and a little curtain raiser twice
daily. The interim is filled with specially
selected novelty numbers.
Gagel Brothers' latest publication, "Under
the Palm Trees," an Arabian Intermezzo by
James Haack, is a "star" number among
their "star publications;" this piece will be
extensively advertised the coming season, as
the publishers feel they have in it a sure hit.

A CLEVER IDEA.
The excellent policy adopted some time
ago, by the Peerless Publishing Co., of sell-
ing to dealers ONE copy of their publications
for five cents, will be continued during the
present season. • By this means many dealers
have been able to ascertain the quality of this
firm's publications, at practically no expense,
and we would recommend other dealers do-
ing the same. Five new songs, and a num-
ber of instrumental pieces are in press, and
will be ready for the trade early in Septem-
ber.

WHAT SOL BLOOM SAYS.
The publications of Sol Bloom's Music
House will be featured with The Chas. E.
Blaney enterprise. Among those that will
appear prominently will be "The Honey-
suckle and the Bee," and "Coon, Coon,
Coon."
May Howard will feature, assisted by
twenty-four ladies, "The Honeysuckle and
the Bee." It will be a big number of the
show, and will be put on with electrical ef-
fects.
Mark Bennet, who has charge of Mr. Din-
kin's Innocent Maids, is presenting "Just
liecause I Love You So" as a spectacular
number of this company.
Favor & St. Clair, who have been engaged
as stars of manager (Jus Hill's Happy Hooli-
gan Co., will feature many of Sol Bloom's
successful publications. Miss St. Clair will
be seen again in her charming specialty, and
the big company of forty will assist her when
she sings "The Honeysuckle and the Bee."
Permission has been granted to Harry S.
Marion by manager Gus Hill to place the
publications of Sol I'loom with the following
attractions : Happy Hooligan Co., Are You
a liuffalo, McFadden's Row of Flats, and
all of his burlesque shows. Among those
will be three ensemble numbers, prominently
among them being the big hit. "The Honey-
suckle and the Bee."
(irace Hazard writes from the Valley
Stock Co., now playing at Syracuse, that
"The Honeysuckle and the Bee" was one of
her biggest numbers. The success of this
song appears to be astounding for the length
of time it has been placed before the public.

E. T. PAULL MUSIC CO.
A new coon song by Ben Harney, en-
titled "I'd Give a Hundred if the Gal Was
Mine," has just made its appearance in pro-
fessional copy form. From the way in which
the professional singers are calling for this
piece, it is very evident that a good-sized
hit is on the way and will shortly be heard
from one end of the country to the other.
The offices of E. T. Paull Music Co. are
generally full from morning to night re-
hearsing this song. The melody is certainly
one of the catchiest we have heard in a long
time, and the chorus is simply irresistible.
We congratulate the E. T. Paull Music Co.
on having such a good number in their cata-
logue.
