tion of "He Certainly Was Good to Me,"
the song having been revived by May Irwin,
and immediately a new demand for it was
created. A new number is "The Messenger
Boy" march, which is played as a vocal num-
ber in the musical comedy of that name. An-
other number in that show is "The Willie
Boys." With these songs and instrumental
pieces this firm may be said to possess a good
live catalogue, and one that grows all the
time.

When Colonel Edwin S. Conway, of
Kimball fame, reached town on Monday,
the rumor mills began to grind exceed-
ing fine, and the usual stories about a
Kimball New York branch and trust
plans began to circulate. Had the ge-
nial colonel taken some of the piano and so-
called newspaper men into his confidence,
and, unlike Croker, told them his "private
business" all would be well. It is too bad that
such distinguished personages as Colonel
Conway, Governor Odell, and the wife of the
President cannot come to New York to buy
Christmas presents (?) without being the
subject of newspaper notoriety. Too bad,
indeed!
Manager Erck, of the Mathushek ware-
rooms, rooms, Broadway and Forty-seventh
street, has now on exhibition a complete
showing of the Mathushek & Son styles of
the present season in all woods, including
the well-known parlor grand and a series
of uprights, in plain and fancy case designs,
excelling all previous exhibits of the same
firm. The wholesale trade of the firm is
prospering. The retail department has in-
creased its output steadily each year under
present management.

WASHINGTON'S FIRST DEALER.
The first advertisement of a music dealer
in the National Capital has just been un-
earthed, and it forms an interesting contri-
bution to the announcements of the members
of the industry in days agone:
In February, 1807, P. Mauro notified the
public that he had just imported direct from
London, England, four English pianofortes,
with additional keys. Astor makes, together
with other musical instruments. "The above
instruments have been examined by the sub-
scriber, who (flattering himself to be a
judge) will, when sold, warrant them to be
of superior quality and without any defect."

J. C. Henderson, general manager of the
Ann Arbor Organ Co., Ann Arbor, Mich.,
has just returned from a trip which has been
more than usually successful. There is great
activity at the Ann Arbor plant, and Mr.
Henderson will be able to make a great show-
ing when the stockholders get together, which
will be at a very early date.
STE1NERTONE PUBUC1TY.
The cleverly written and lengthy advertise-
ment of the Steinertone Co. in the Sunday pa-
pers are bringing many visitors to the Stein-
ertone headquarters, where much interest,
tinged with enthusiasm, is manifested after
an examination of this twentieth century cre-
ation.
