Behning News.
Augustus Behning, of the Helming Piano
Co., has started on a lengthy Western tour
in the firm's interests. He does not expect
to return until the early part of June.
Charles Spanier, Behning representative,
leaves on Monday next for a six-weeks' trip
in the East and Middle West.
Callers at the Behning factory this week
included Howard Collins, of the Barron &
Collins Co., Danielson, Conn.; Frank Schil-
ling, Oswego, N. Y.; and A. Le Roy Con-
key, New Milford, Conn., all successful
Behning agents. The Barron & Collins Co.
have represented the Behning interests at
Danielson for the past fifteen years and have
built up an important Behning following in
their territory. Mr. Collins left a big order,
to be shipped promptly for the spring trade.
Next week will be issued a new Behning
catalogue, including several new styles in
uprights, notably styles K, 21, 19 and 15, all
having handsome, original case designs and
embracing the special Behning features of
tone and construction.

Williamson Bros., Behr Bros, agents at
Los Angeles, have received the following
letter from Mr. R. M. Close, 936 Grattan
street in that city, bearing date April 2, 1901:
"Gentlemen—I am somewhat interested in
the purchasing of a piano for a large room
in our city, and write this for price on con-
cert grand of Behr Bros. make. I specify
the Behr Bros, because I have had one in my
residence for nearly ten years and anyone
hearing it to-day would not think it more
than two years from the factory. It has had
the hardest kind of use, as my daughter uses
it hard for from two to four hours each day.
It is never closed, as the little children who
come to visit my little one understand that
the piano is also for their use.
"And further, I had it tuned about six
months before leaving the east last summer.
By chance^ the same tuner that tuned it
is in Los Angeles. He was very much sur-
prised to find it so little out of tune after six
months use, and a journey of 3700 miles.
"P.S. Anyone doubting the above state-
ment is at liberty to call and examine the in-
strument to their satisfaction,"

The Fabian Reunion.
. The twenty-fifth anniversary of the Fabian
Union will take place at the Lexington Opera
House, 58th St. and Lexington Ave., Monday,
April 22. It being the silver jubilee of the or-
ganization, great preparations have been made
to make the occasion the most memorable
in the history of the club. An elaborate
minstrel program will be presented, in which
a chorus of over fifty male and female artists
will participate, as well as four end men and
an interlocutor in the person of Air. Alex.
J. Brown, the well-known humorist and en-
tertainer. Solos, duets, quartets, and the
Fabian Double Sextet will be heard in the
latest and most up-to-date numbers.
The advance sale of seats indicates that
the affair, from a financial standpoint, will
realize the fullest expectations of the mem-
bers.
The reception which will follow the en-
tertainment, promises to be unusually bril-
liant.

At the factory of the Packard Co., Ft.
Wayne, Ind., there is a big increase in orders,
not only from domestic, but from European
trade centers. They are now preparing for
foreign shipment big orders for Hirsch &
Co., their agents in London, Eng., and Franz
Friebling, of Hamburg, the Packard repre-
sentative in that country. The Packard has
long been a favorite in musical centers in
Europe.
The "Bell Brand" Strings.
The "Bell Brand" strings, manufactured
by the National Musical String Co., New
Brunswick, N. J., are known to-day in almost
every part of the world. The merits of
these strings have been acclaimed by lead-
ing musicians in the professional and ama-
teur field. Their progress in popularity is
not a matter of chance but due entirely to
the substantial values embodied in these
products.
The National Musical String Co. have
made string production a constant study,
and the supremacy occupied at one time by
Europe in this particular department of the
industry has been successfully offset by the
labors of this progressive institution.
Christman Exporting.
Christman & Son report a great degree of
activity in both the wholesale and retail de-
partments of their business. Quite recently
they have been filling some large export or-
ders to South American countries, where the
Christman piano has a steadily increasing
list of admirers. Domestic trade is also ex-
cellent. The sterling merits of the Christ-
man piano seem to be winning a deserved
measure of recognition these days from good
judges of piano values everywhere.

THE SHAW PIANO CO., ERIE, PA.
During the past week the factory of the
Hobart M. Cable Co., Chicago, has been vis-
ited by a number of prominent musicians
and dealers, who have made a thorough ex-
amination and test of the new Hobart M.
Cable pianos. One and all have been enthu-
siastic regarding these instruments, and
speak most flatteringly of the beautiful scale
used therein—a scale which results in a tone
quality of rare carrying power and qual-
ity. In architecture these pianos are also
splendidly balanced and the ensemble is sat-
isfactory to a high degree. Orders, which
are coming in from all p a r s of the country,
are being booked in pretty lively fashion
for the Hobart M. Cable pianos, and the
factory is being tested to its capacity to get
instruments ready for shipment. Dealers in-
terested in a live instrument would do well
to correspond with the Hobart M. Cable Co.
if they have not been visited by their travel-
ing ambassadors, H. B. Morenus and E. E.
Walters.
Rohifing Co. Appreciative.
The Rohifing Sons Music Co. have sent
Chief Foley, of the Fire Department of Mil-
waukee, Wis., a check for $100, in recog-
nition of the department's services at the re-
cent fire.
