MEETS WITH KEEN APPRECIATION OF BUSH
& GERTS PIANO VALUES ON HIS TRIP CON-
FIDENT OF A SPLENDID FALL TRADE.
" I returned the early part of this
month from a general trip through the
West, Northwest and Southwest," said the
genial Will L. Bush general manager of
the Bush & Gerts Piano Co., Chicago, to
The Review. "I rounded up a good many
deals, and made some very satisfactory
sales of the popular Bush & Gerts pianos,
and the most gratifying feature of my
trip was the number of our very finest
pianos sold, our style 15 having been a
perfect mascot all along my trip, and I
had the pleasure of being mixed up in
several very warm competitive deals, when
this piano came to my rescue in a manner
that was truly gratifying to me, having
grown somewhat rusty in my experience
in selling pianos at retail in the country,
but I always like to help out a good dealer
whenever I get the chance, and am glad
to say that this particular style of piano
took several scalps during my trip, the
most interesting part of which was proba-
bly my visit to Fargo, N. D., during the
Fire Tournament and Industrial Parade,
which surpassed anything I have ever seen
in its magnificence and completeness of
detail. For entertainment of visitors as well
as their comfort, Fargo is certainly the
peer of any city of its size in the United
States, and reminds me so much of Chicago,
that I might consider it almost a small edi-
tion of our hustling, bustling metropolis.
" I am satisfied that there is going to be
a splendid trade from a large portion of
the territory that I covered this fall, and
we are preparing the most complete and
varied stock of our new and up-to-date
styles that we have ever had for fall trade,
and have profited by our experience of a
year ago, when during our strike our only
salvation was the fact that we had several
hundred pianos completed when it began,
and we have always made it a point to
carry a heavy stock when we could, and it
is absolutely necessary this fall, unless
some unforeseen calamity occurs."
Revised Tariffs in Australasia.

Washington, D. C , July 23, 1900.
The authorities here have just made
public the revised tariffs on American
goods entering the various colonies broad-
ly known as Australasia. Those bearing
on musical instruments and parts thereof,
will be of interest to the trade: The duties
are as follows:
Victoria—upright pianos, $24.33 each;
grand pianos, $72.99 each; cabinet organs
(including second hand), $14.60 each; pipe
organs, 25 per cent, ad valorem; piano
actions made up and organ parts, 25 per
cent, ad valorem; musical instruments
and parts not made up, free.

The Merchants' Association of New York
is maintaining an aggressive campaign for
the purpose of bringing the Texas trade to
this city to as great an extent as possible.
This week a circular was issued containing
information anent the concessions which
had been granted by the Southern Pacific
Co. in favor of New York. This will be
followed in a few days by another one set-
ting forth the desirability of the New York
market more in detail.
