THE MUSIC TRADE REVIEW
Knabe's Mahogany Purchase.
Ernest J. Knabe, head of the great
Knabe house of Baltimore, was in town last
Tuesday. It is a well-known fact that he
is one of the most expert veneer buyers in
the country. He is always on the alert for
something striking and rich for Knabe
piano casings. During the week he vis-
Recently in talking with The Review
about this superb log, Mr. Geo. Cole
stated that it was one of the rarest quality
that he had ever seen in his long experi-
ence as a veneer man. It yielded 70,000
feet of veneer, all being beautifully fig-
ured, something quite out of the ordinary
and will well become the superb Knabe
can-made strings with some of the leading
houses in England as well as on the con-
tinent, notable among them being the es-
tablishment of C. & J. Ullman.
Business at the National Musical String
Co. 's establishment was never better. The
immense plant is flooded with orders not
only from the United States, but from all
parts of the world. The wide recognition
accorded the products of this house is cer-
tainly a well-deserved tribute to their ex-
cellence.
The Canadian Association.
We have received from R. B. Andrew,
the secretary of the Canadian Piano &
Organ Manufacturers Association, a copy
of the constitution and by-laws of that or-
ganization. It is very cleverly compiled,
and is in a convenient, concise form. The
object of the association is for the mutual
protection and promotion of the manufac-
turing and trade interests of the Canadian
manufacturers. Thus far the members
seem well satisfied with what they have
accomplished.
THE IMMENSE VENEER LOG PURCHASED BY WM. KNABE & CO.
ited the yards of Isaac I. Cole & Son, foot
of Eighth street, and was so pleased with
the mammoth log of mahogany which that
concern had recently landed in New York,
and which has been referred to in The
Review, that he purchased it. This is pro-
bably the largest mahogany log ever landed
in New York. Its dimension are 13 feet
long, 68 inches square and its weight ex-
ceeds 11 tons.

A BIG THING FOR THE TRADE
The Wonder Self-Composer
(PATENT APPLIED FOR)
Not a toy, but a remarkable invention by which any
person can write hundreds of different marches (two-
step) for piano or organ without previous knowledge
of musical composition. Read what great composers
say about it:
JOHN PHILIP SOUSA:
"It is an unique and marvelous in-
vention."
FRED N. INNES:
"The most clever musical device I
have ever seen."
ALESSANDRO LIBERATI:
'' I congratulate the inventor. The
SELF-COMPOSER is all that is claimed
for it."
D. W. REEVES:
"An instructive and meritorious in-
vention that should create a large
demand."'
