The New Ellington Factory.
The approach of the new factory of the
Ellington Piano Co. to completion makes
it a matter of interest to Cincinnatians to
know that Cincinnati will hold up her end
in this industry along with almost any
other city in the country, says the Enquir-
er of that city. The new plant, which will
be operated in connection with the other
adjoining plant of U. H. Baldwin & Co.,
will be occupied in a few weeks, at least
in a partial way, and it will not be
long before the manufacture of pianos is
begun there. The Baldwin Co. will have
altogether a capacity of 7,500 pianos a
year, and will actually turn out between
6,000 and 7,000 instruments per year. The
entire production of Cincinnati factories
will aggregate over 10,000. There will be
made this year in all about 120,000 pianos
in the entire country, and a good half of
this number will be manufactured west of
the Alleghanies. Cincinnati will, it can
be seen, add fully her share to the number
of instruments that will be put on the
market by contributing her 10,000.
"This for an industry that can be still
called a new one," said Lucien Wulsin,
president of the Ellington Piano Co.,
"makes quite a good showing."
For Organ Manufacturers.
Organ manufacturers will be interested

P. Ginther, Akron, O., are being consid-
ered for the new St. Bernard's Church, of
which Rev. J. B. Brown is pastor. $100,-
000.—The vestry of St. Paul's Episcopal
Church, Newport News, Va., will receive
bids for a church, 60x97 ft. Separate pro-
posals will be received for organ and fur-
niture.—J. A. Dempwolf, Centre square,
York, Pa., church for the First Lutheran
Church, Carlisle, Pa. $50,000.—Contract-
ors are figuring on a church for the Roman
Catholic Congregation at Glencove, L. I.,
after plans by Ingle & Almirall, 10 East
Twenty-third street, New York City.
$40,000.—Jos. A. Jackson, Waterbury,
Conn., edifice for the Church of the As-
sumption, at Stratford, Conn., $30,000.
Valuable to Piano Students.
A WELCOME INVENTION WHICH INCREASES THE
PLEASURE OF PRACTICE.
The pleasure of piano practice has been
greatly increased by the introduction of a
new invention which will be highly appre-
ciated by students.
This invention consists of a thin strip of
felt which may be interposed between the
hammers and the strings by pressing a
third pedal, thus diminishing the tone so
that the instrument is scarcely audible in the
same room. A piano with this improve-
ment will last many years longer, the ham-
mers being saved unnecessary wear; new
musical effects are also added to the re-
sources of the instrument.
